Evening all.

Just wondering what you'd class as an acceptable amount of putts for a round for certain Handicap's??

For example yesterday I felt I putted terribly but when reviewing my round I had 32 putts.

I appreciate its a bit of a general question with no definitive answer...just after some thoughts.

Cheers 😁

There are so many variables that I don't think there's a real answer..
I can play to my handicap and take 25 or 36 putts and anywhere in between.
It depends on how the short game is going, as well as the size of the greens - on a huge green a 3 putt might actually not be that bad a result
Miss every green, chip up and 1 putt and not only have you taken 18 putts but you're playing par Golf.
Hit every green and take 2 putts and you have the same outcome....

It's not a singular stat you can look at so generally IMO, if your not hitting GIR then you'll be chipping close and putting more single putts than you would if you were hitting GIR so that distorts your stats. I'd say once your on the green anything under an average of 2-putts is good, but other factors have a bearing on that.

i play off 14 and very often will take between 35 and 40 putts per round ,my long game is pretty good but my putting ,at best it is atrocious. what would be acceptable to my game would be constantly putting no more than 34 in a round and probably at best 30.
i still dream of doing it.

As a couple have mentioned. It also depends on greens in reg. I never care how many putts I have, or fairways I hit to be honest. It's all about the final total. How many, not how.

The mere number of putts tells you nothing about the quality of your putting.

I use SS2 which has a target in a number of categories including putts per round based on your handicap and automatically adjusts as your handicap goes up and down. Currently it's set at 33 (off 13) and I'm averaging 34.30 so not so hot so far this year. Not sure what the OP is off but I'd suggest 33 isn't too bad

I had 27 points today with 40 putts including 9 3 putts. Distance control for me is terrible at the moment. Never had an issue with a blade on distance control but missed too many short ones.
