This is a bit of a RANT here so sorry in advance lol..

Yesterday pouring with rain but had the Tee booked and two mates from another club where coming to join us.. I was not going to enter the comp tho said might as well as the rest where..

So shot a Gross 43 on the front nine that included a 7 at one hole where i drove my first out of bounds... Was not happy about that but a 43 for 20 handicap'er is not bad.. ( think i could have easyly saved 3/4 shots)

Onto to the back nine did not have a great start tho was bringing it back with only 3 holes to go, bogey-ing out to the end i would have shot 42.. again with my handicap i would have shot a NETT 65 overall.. (all handy enough par holes with the wind behind) and in turn would have been cut to 18..

But thanks to the some much rain over the weekend on the 16th, i hit my drive with a fade.. it landed in semi rough ( as did 2 of the other guys) We all hit provisional's and i was the only one hit the fairway from that.. Anways.. Walked up to semi rough I hear got mine, and again got mine.. so theres me thinking right I should get mine, of course that was not the case.. I was so F-ing mad.. Besause i was thinking that be right.. End up now getting beat by 2 shots now.. so battle on with the rest of the hole with my provisional to get a 8.. (par 5) so lost the head ended up with a 6 on the 17th (easy 5 normaly) and again a 7 on the 18th could not get it out of my head.. So looks now like i am going to ended up getting 0.1 back..

Think its going to take me all week to get over this.. I think if i had of hit my drive out of bounds on the 16th that would have been fair enough as i did it on the 5th hole on the front nine and kept my head, tho the fact it was 10 yards into the semi, i lost it.. Guess thats why i play off 20.. But just pisses me off as i know i am easyly playing off lower. tho coming to end of season and the weather is holding me back now. i really wanted 18 at least this season.

sorry again for the rant people..

But have you learnt anything from it that will help you in your next round?

When people say "one shot at a time", not only does it mean don't start thinking about your score on the coming holes, but don't let what's happened previously affect you either.

I don't mean to sound preachy so apologies if it does, but do you think you'd have scored any differently on 17 & 18 if you'd have found your ball on 16?

It is easy to say, but that's golf. Good luck, bad luck, what ever. The real crime was missing the fairway on 16. If you had been on the fairway, then you would have found it no problem, but then that's why you play off 20. That said, I am amazed you have 10 yards of semi. On my course, 3 yards of semi, then knee deep bundu. No chance of finding it.

To me, the handicap doesn't often lie. I can knock it round pretty near level, more often than not. But, in a medal, off the blocks, with my name in the book, I play off 12 (thanks to another cracking score this weekend, up 0.1 again).

People tell me I should be lower, I think I should be lower, but the truth is, I play off 12. How you deal with disasters plays a big part in how you score. Even low single figure golfers have disasters, they just recover better.

Not having a go by the way, just making observations.

I know., its a real rookie move getting pissed at it.. tho same thing the week before which got me down a bit as i ended with with a 42 points should have been 45 lol.. The hole in question is S.I 15 or something its really good scoring hole in the dry weather, as most feel hard done by getting a 6 at it..

Going to take a half day on wed and get back up for the mid week open.. s/ford comp.. this time round i will just hit a 3/4 iron off the tee and same again wont leave me far off the green.. As its only in around 500yards no more on weekends & 400 yards midweek..

Just be thrilled with the positive of your round...you shot a gross 43 (thats playing to round about a 14 h/c standard)and you had a 7. Take only the positive with you not the negative, unless you are gonna laugh about it. :D

I share your pain. Playing a two rounder yesterday I started birdie (chip in) birdie and felt good. Stood on the 3rd and hit the biggest slice of my career OB and then hooked my next OB. Went to the drop zone and ended up taking a 9. I then managed a 7 on the back 9 and still got it round in net 74 (+4)

Played much better in the afternoon and stood on 17 +7 gross. Me and the 17th have history and feeling pretty tired I was going to hit 4 iron to avoid OB left and maybe get it to the front edge or leave a simple chip, two putt and move on. Having hit hybrid onto the green AM I changed my mind and hit it again. Cue hook OB. Changed to 4 iron and hit it 10 yards short. Decent chip to 10 feet and tried to sink the putt and ened up 3 stabbing for 7.

Its not the first time I've messed up there and have I learnt anything. I'd like to think so now but we all know our golfing brain isn't always the same as our rational one so I guess we'll see. If we're doing well on Saturday in the members/guest day HTL is under strict instructions to guard my bag and only let me hit 4/5 iron.

Talking about not learning anything Homer, In my recent round up and downer, I used 3w several times off the tee when my driver played up.....every one of them down the middle..ish and very long (almost as long as driver)but did I learn...did I heck! :D
