Hadn't played for a month up untill yesterday, and was playing poorly when I did. Hitting all types of weird shots and couldn't find my usually grooved stroke.

Went out yesterday with one thing in mind, swing path, that's it. My o my the results where excellent. Great path, good rythem and a nice tempo. Ball striking was back to best and I was finding flags.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, and was a layoff good for your game?

Yep,didn't play for 8 months due to a hand injury about ten years back and came back and had my best spell ever.

I am currently out for around 6-8 weeks due to a hernia op and after my dreadful 2010 form if I come back to worse form it'll be absinthe never mind absence!!!!!

Didn't play for 3 years once. Came back, and first round shot 5 under my h/cap. Always figured if I left it alone for 10 years I could turn pro.

I went out today with no golf for a week knowing I was over thinking my game.

Played a totally relaxed 9 holes with friends and shot four under my handicap. I did not warm up, I just played without any thoughts!

Save the tech for the range is my biggest lesson from this!

Most on here will argue I've had a layoff all season. I do think it can help but it can be a double edged sword and you can come back rusty (especially chipping and putting) and make more bad shots as a result. I'm trying to be more positive in my thoughts and tust the work I've been doing at the range. I've only played once in about a month now (last week and not very well) because of going to see my sick mother. I'm not actually missing it too much although I'd like to have played in the stableford today

Must admit short game wasn't great as it's usually very solid. Noticed a big difference in the greens too. Usually our are lighting and subtle breaks can catch u out but now there slow there not moving as much.

I went out again today to see if I had fluked it but it was just as positive.
The month off had me thinking about my weakness which is hitting the ball to low. I'm now hitting the ball from just front of centre with wedges and mid irons and my flight is much higher as I'm not delofting the club.

Tony, when are you getting your backside in gear and getting your Ping driver fitting?

Glad to hear your playing well.

Crawford, spoke to the main man last month. He agreed to me using a local pro to be fit and sending him the specs, then he will post me the club.

In fairness my Ft-5 is still as good as ever even after 2 years.

I do want to go to Gainsborough but don't think I'll get chance.

Yep I haven't played much since August and rolled up for a one-off board comp on 2nd October having played once in the previous 4 weeks (2 weeks before the comp). Yes, hit the ball great, 72 for 66, won comp and back down to 5. All my seasons ambitions realised in one afternoon. Funny old game....:D
