Aaaaagh! My golf coach is leaving!

Over the last few years I've had lessons from a few different people. The latest guy I'd found a few months back was great. Really made some good progress with him and improved my swing. He was based at a coaching centre not far from my work, so I could sneak away at lunchtime for a lesson and get back in time for the afternoon. He had a great set up there as well - all the coaching gadgets etc. I'd always get emailed some video footage and feedback afterwards as well. I was going once a week for a couple of months, now see him every two or three weeks. All perfect!

Then I got a bombshell text yesterday to say he's had an offer he can't refuse to go somewhere else! Aaaaagh! So annoying, but I can understand people move on.

Hes not gone far, but it's far enough to mean I probably now won't have time to be able to get to him and back in my lunch hour. And I don't live close enough to do lessons at other times, plus have a young family so don't have much spare time. I'm now facing having to try one of the other coaches at the place he's leaving, or stop my lessons.

Aaaagh! I feel like I've just been dumped and am going through a relationship break up!!!:(:(:(:D

Ah, come on ... if it is real love, you'll make the long distance relationship work somehow (I'd know ... I travel over a thousand miles twice a year to get to my coach). If not, you'll soon find someone else.

Is this Adrian Fryer?!?!? He has only gone 20 minutes up the road, but I get what you mean about nipping out from work for a 30 min lesson.... Jon Styles is very good though and he is based there...

I tend to use word of mouth recommendation when looking to change teaching pro. A good pro will have a reputation that will travel. Of course it still needs to be a two way street and you have to be able to understand what is being shown and you have to know why the changes are being made. As a pupil you need t be able to ask questions and get feedback

I've just seen he's coming to my local range, that's a massive coup.

Stevie Holden also came from TFG a few years ago.

Is Stevie still there? He's the man when can make anybody, even me, feel good about their swing!
Adrian Fryer is a different class... I know he writes for another mag (and it feels like cheating) but he is worth every penny...

Yes mate Stevie's still there, he's a cracking fella and a very good player/teacher. I've never used anybody else except him, he's absolutely magic.

My auld apprentice used to use Fryer when he was at Drivetime, he swore by him. How much does he charge?

Haha! One mans loss is another mans gain.

Hello Adrian I'm Dave, sort this out....

he'll be back at truefit by the end of the month :mmm:

£150 for 5 or £99 for 3 and you get a video summary of the lesson...
Dave, you don't need lesson the way your hc has tumbled !

Ha, yes it is Adrian Fryer. I guess a lot of people from the area have heard about his move. The world of golf must be a small one!

I realise he hasn't gone far - the issue is simply that the only way I can do lessons with him is in my lunch hour. I'm going to try and make it work if I can. Nothing against any of the other guys at TFG at all and I'll give them a try if I can't continue with Adrian - just that I've had a few lessons with various people over the years and Adrian seems to have achieved the most out of me!

If you can manage to find 3hrs+ for a round I'm sure you can find 1hr for a lesson.

I wish mate! I don't play anywhere near as much as I'd like to be able to! Young family prevents me from doing so. I'm hoping that when they're older, my kids will want to play! :D

I've done The same with Steve Holden, I trust him, he knows my swing but most of all we connect. I used to go to TFG to see him which is probably 25mins away and there's locally plenty of very good pros knocking about, luckily he's 5mins away now.

Having some one you know you can trust and you know that when you go and see him you'll feel the benefit of spending your hard earned is invaluable.

Stick with him and try to make it work is my advice.

That's not bad money tbf.

I pay £23 for my time with Stevie and he's well worth it imo.

Just had a look at the website for Liverpool Golf Centre. Looks to be a good set up.

The practice greens intrigue me - I see they're astro turf, which they claim "perfectly replicates a real green". Have you tried them at all? Are they a realisitc recreation of a real putting green? I'd like to spend more time doing putting practice. I did have a putting lesson with Adrian at TFG. Their practice putting green isn't great. We also went on one of the greens on the course, which wasn't in good nick either. Never actually played the course, but I know they've had various issues with the greens there this year and are working to put them right.

So be interested to hear what putting on astro turf is like!

Funnily enough, I had a putting lesson a couple of months ago there with Stevie Holden and I was a bit apprehensive in using it but it rolls perfectly. I stuck with Stevie instead of using my own pro at my club in our putting green.

The previous owners of Liverpool golf centre left it to deteriorate so always used to use TFG because it was a better range. It used to have a proper short game area back in the early 90's when it 1st opened.

It's improving all the time and the lads who own it have spent a good few quid on it. The shop is only small but from what I believe they're expanding it on a regular basis.
