As many of you will be aware I've never been a fan of foresomes and have actively avoided playing it. You will have read such things from me as "hate it" and "it's half a round of golf".

Yet somehow I have managed to allow myself to be persuaded to put my name down for consideration for a foresomes squad at Blackmoor and signed up for a trial on March 14th  The team is made up of 10 players with a combined handicap of 90.

I'm really not sure how this happened but I'm strangely looking forward to it. I don't really know how or when I had this change of heart (maybe the fact I turn 40 in May is doing funny things to my head) but now I need to try to work out exactly how to change my selfish "me and my ball" attitude towards golf into one fit for competitive foresomes.

Of course I may not make the team or I may decide I really don't like it and withdraw following the trial, but I might also turn out to be quite good at it.

I hope you do well and enjoy it. Our winter league is forsomes and, whilst I would not want to play all my golf this way, I quite like it as a change to add a bit of variety (particularly on own club course as it means you get to play some (very!) different shots).

Have fun, look forward to the report.

Simon

How can you not like playing foursomes. 2 have to become one in a way, you have to give 100% to every shot as you don't want to let your partner down, makes you possibly focus more on what you are trying to do and when you find the right combo it can be more rewarding then shooting your best round.

Ive been fortunate to win 5 foursome club knockouts 2 on the bounce at one club and 3 on the bounce at another, so maybe I'm biased towards foursomes.

Like many cant stand foursomes, try and avoid it where possible but been dragged into play for the scratch team this winter and thats foursomes. Actually played pretty well last time out and nearly enjoyed it, but would still prefer any other format of golf personally. I do understand those that love it like 3565, just not for me

I played in a club Greensomes comp last week and actually really enjoyed it! played OK too! that might be why...

Greensomes isnt so bad, you get to hit every tee shot, I play in the mixed knockouts and theyre greensomes and the formats not so bad as you hit most shots still

Not a big fan of foursomes - but I play it as it can be a good laugh

Ban the word "sorry" between you and your partner. Nobody plays a bad shot on purpose so there's no need to keep saying "sorry".

Your partner will be sick hearing it by the end of the round :whoo:

Greensomes- passable at a push

Foursomes- devils game and should be banned, waste of a round of golf

*edited as I thought spelling was off- Richard spotted it:thup:

Mike it is foursomes. I know you shout fore a lot.:) A lot will depend on who you partner, as it can be a long round if you are playing with someone you don't get on with.

I played in the team once with my regular partner. I normally enjoy the format, but it was a bit too competitive for us. Fortunately we won, so retired with a 100% record.

I used to say I hated the format too but have grown to appreciate it for what it is and its difficulty. Now I kind of relish the chance to play Foursomes as it's probably the least common (popular!) format.

Scratch team golf is often foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon. I love it, possibly because of wanting to play well for your partner and not let your team down.

Greensomes.......that's just a stupid society game.
