Went for a knock earlier. Played the front 9 (par 36) in 44 which I seem to do literally every round. Then played the best golf of my life to play the back 9 (par 34) in 35. I was actually -1 for the back 9 going down 18!

Still, 79 is my new PB at my new course.

Yeah, it was a good feeling. Still a little disappointed with the double on the last though, I actually didn't play the hole that badly, 3 wood off the tee which ended up in an awful lie only 5 yards off the fairway. Still, only about 125 yards left but the lie was that bad i only managed to hack a wedge about 80 yards into some more cabbage.

Need 1 more card to sort my handicap. Hopefully I can reproduce some of that form, I've got an 86 and an 84 to hand in so far.

Well, I just did it again last night! 44 out, 35 in, bogey on the last. Also had a put lip out for an eagle when I drove the blind 287 yard 16th. Found my ball 10 foot from the hole, the kind of shot that happens once a blue moon.

This was my last card so I have an official 79 to go with my 84 and 86.

Obviously got a natural ability tucked away there somewhere. Here's to more sub 80's

So will you get a handicap of 9? When i handed in my 3 cards, my handicap was based on my lowest score, not an average!

Great shooting, well done!

I was under the impression that it was an average? SSS off yellows is 69, so 84+84(I had an 8 that will be rounded to 6)+79 = 247 - 207sss = 40/3 = 13.3 handicap?

If I end up with 9 or 10 I can see that being a struggle for a while.

Have already played to 79 twice in a week so can't see why it would be a struggle for you

Got my handicap today, been given 12. Pleased with that, lower than I ever was as a junior 14 years ago. Now to start dropping it further.

Hold on, there's something not right here. A gross 79 against SSS 69 is a 10 handicap in my book. The club can award a handicap lower than the result from the best card of those submitted if it has other information such as previous handicap held. It can only award a handicap higher than the best card suggests in "exceptional circumstances". I wonder what "exceptional circumstances" prevailed in this case.

Cat 1 ? golfer boasting about shooting 79 twice in a week ?? not everyone is as good as you phil ...................EYG

Well you have just reached a new low of pathetic and further digs towards me

Think you need to read through the thread a bit more carefully and see exactly what my post was about.

The mind does boggle sometimes then - I very recently was given my first ever h/c of 11. I shot an 83 with an 8 in there (Par 70, SSS 68). The other two cards were awful (i really had two of those days!), 89 and 92 I think. I was a bit shocked with 11 and know I'll struggle to play to it but I'll give it a darn good go, have got 4 attempts left, lol!

Of those rounds MC has put in, I'd have expected him to have been given less than 12 but as MC says, it'll soon sort itself out.
