Hi All,

I played on Sunday for the first time in eight weeks, I have been practicing every day in the net and on Saturday I had the best and most constructive range session that allowed me to correlate what I was doing in the net was the right thing.

The course was packed on Sunday and as a result I played poorly for nine holes, we then went back to the first to avoid more of the same on the back nine. Suddenly I was able to use what I had been working so hard on.

Third hole(12th hole we played), par four, 393 Yard SI 4 slight dog leg. I let off a lovely drive with a big draw on it landing on the 150 marker. Exactly the shape I wanted, landing in the exact spot I asked it to. I spend a moment going through my club selection, 150 to the front, the pin looked about 15/18 foot on. I requested my 7 iron to land exactly on the front of the green and run at the pin. Hit the 7 with the sweetest 7 yard draw, it landed a foot on the green and started to run at the hole finishing 2 foot from the pin. Easy tap in birdie.

OK this is a story about a Birdie, not exactly newsworthy but for me the feeling and execution of these two shots are a clear sign that I am learning to control and manipulate the ball. I have known this has been coming for a while and under pressure it is not where it needs to be but I am bursting at the seems with excitement.

I went on to hit a few more GIR, struck the ball very well, specially irons and wedges and won the game having been 4 points back.

Well done mate.

Sounds like you have put the effort in at home. I dont have a net, so only get to swing in front of the mirror in the living room with a swing and grip trainer. Its great to see the flight you imagine come off and get some payback for all the hours practicing.

Had no birdies at the weekend, but stepped up to a few 150 yd approach shots and felt truly confident that if I perform the routine it will hit the target.

Sounds like you got some good rounds coming up

Well done Alex, that is a tricky hole where I always seem to end up on that stupid bank at the back of the green. Nice when your body listens to what you are trying to get it to do......mine sticks its fingers in its ears, metophorically speaking.

Out of interest, why did the busyness of the course make you play badly? People watching, slow play etc?

I have not played much this year so my short game was poor on the front nine, we waited for every shot tee and approach and the guy in the group behind was walking right upto us on the tee boxes. I would rather he had hung back a little as I always do. It is not something that would usualy be a huge problem but I think both me and my buddy were finding it a little suffocating.

Rather than blame others I guess it was just my head on that day in time. I had wanted some time to ply my trade, I got that on the 2nd nine.
