Hello!

Not sure about forum etiquette with regard to intros etc, but I figured this would be the place to start.

I bought some bats off a scratch golfer about 10 years ago, played about twice, realised I wasn't going to turn pro, then they sat in the garage for a decade. I've recently dusted them off and had a round at a local (short, all par 3 & 4s) course, and really enjoyed it! So now I'm going to actually stick to it and try and improve.

I've obviously not got a handicap, but if I did, it would be somewhere around the 300 mark. I plan to reduce this over the next few months...

I'm off to the range tomorrow after work, so if anyone has any tips on reducing a handicap to around 290, I'm all ears!

Hello and welcome, you'll have a lot if fun playing and on the forum.
See your pro and maybe have some lessons and up grade 10 year old kit lots more help with today's gear.

Enjoy!!

Welcome. When I read 300 I thought it was going to be one of those long driving threads again. What a relief it's not. :) Enjoy.

Welcome. I would recommend getting some lessons to start with, before you groove in any faults. Get the basics right and then practice. Where abouts in Hampshire are you, as I may be able to recommend a good Pro.

Welcome
What kind of irons did you buy from the scratch golfer? You may find that these are not very forgiving and will hinder your progress rather than help.

Welcome along. Where do you play? As others have said I'd recommend a few lessons first to get the basics sorted. Dependant on what sort of clubs you have I'd also look at perhaps replacing them, certainly if they are a bladed version as they will be exceptionally hard to hit consistently. Depending on budget there are lots of game improver models out there which have bigger sweetspots and are more forgiving.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

To answer a few questions:
-the clubs I have are Cleveland TA5's, 3i - PW. I have a Rogue 64 degree lob wedge, a random putter (which I have a feeling is going to be the most used club in my bag. By far...), and a driver and 3 wood made by Hippo. (The woods didn't come with the stuff from the scratch golfer. Think I bought these at a car boot sale or something. Can't really remember, it was a decade ago!)
- I played the other day at a short course in Furzely (sp?). It's all short holes, which is great for me. Not a big hitter.
- I live in Hamble, but spend a lot of time in Portsmouth, so any good pro recommendations would be good.

The bloke I bought the clubs off was selling them because he was moving to blades, so I would assume that the irons aren't too bad for a begginner. Although, what do I know?! Anyone heard of Cleveland TA5's?

Again, thanks for the welcome. I'll keep posting about my progress, and when I can complete a round in less than a good cricket score, perhaps arrange a game with some fellow hackers from the forum?

Hello. 300 eh? fantastic... I'd ask if you fancied a game but you're too far away. There'd be some competition as i'm about a 280hc  well i feel like it anyway.
