At the start of the year we had a set fixture list which advised the season would end over the weekend of 15/16 October.

Popped up to the club today to see a notice on the board advising that the course will be shut for winter maintenance on 10 October thru 13 October.

Not only does this cancel the second to last Summer League due for 12 October it makes the final medal and the final summer league set for that weekend a joke as the greens will be a lottery.

To me it comes across as total disregard for the members or am I not seeing the wider picture?

Anyone else's club start their winter maintenance before all medals are finished?

Yes, we had a board competition at the weekend, after a week of course maintenance. So much sand on the greens, that I don't think I got one putt up to the hole. 39 putts in total, but the good news is I am back to 11. ;)

Others didn't have same problem, as winning score was a net 63, but plenty of complaints in the clubhouse.

We've just been informed that the greens will be scarified this week, ahead of the final major. I have asked them if they can postpone it...the scarifying, not the major!

I'm not holding my breath.

In all respect to green keepers and greens convenor's, certainly in the West of Scotland the amount of rain thats fallen over the last week then I'm all for a pencil core and sand.

If they decide to do that then good on them.
