Just wanted to share this, more to get it of my chest than anything else!

Front 9 started badly. In a footprint (!) in greenside bunker on 1st, fried egg lie in greenside bunker on 2nd, beech tree seedcase directly behind the ball in, guess where... greenside bunker on 3rd! Now I know that there's a school of thought that says I shouldn't be in the damn things, but to have three "bad ones" in a row is annoying.

Then pushed an approach left, which finished inside a small bushy tree! Managed to get in and putt with a hybrid to get it out, but no control (not expected either), so overshot the green.

Hit a tree trying to punch under branches from fairway, and when I missed greens, always seemed to have horrible slopes on greens to contend with.

Couple of shonky putts (normally strong part of my game) saw a front 9 completed in 47, to leave me 11 over, with 9 holes left to play!

Then, for some reason, my game picked up (and some luck too), and I went par, par, birdie, birdie (one of those giving me a share of the two-pot!), and I thought I may be able to still get cut, or at least buffer.

Then it all went pear-shaped again, and shots just failed to work. Carded 45 back, so will be up 0.1! Which means I'm only 1 more increase from going back to 14!

Frustrating game, but God how I love it!

Anyone else have a similar weekend?

Second round of one of our two-day comps. Went into it one off the lead after an opening 67; tougher today as the wind was blowing, and the putts just weren't dropping.

Was going along nicely until the par-3 11th.... hooked my tee-shot into the trees at the left of the green, heard it crack a tree and saw it shoot straight-left into the thick rough. Played a provisional into the greenside bunker; 1st ball lost, proceeded to thin the provisional through the green. Duffed the chip back, then rattled the pin with my next, the ball dropping a foot from the flag for 7.

Then went bogey-par, and standing on the 14th - 4th hardest on the course - pulled my first drive into a thicket, reloaded and stuck the provisional into the pond on the opposite side. Luckily found my original, and it had bounced out. Could only chip sideways, then knocked a hybrid to the right of the green. Duffed the chip into the bunker, failed to get out first time and then popped the next to 3 feet, holing the putt. 7.

Played 15 through 18 in 1-under par; signed for a nett-69. Beaten by 1 shot.

Ive been playing well lately and today we had a sunday stableford open. Birdied the first, par for the second and then a 7 on my favourite 3 and next on my favourite par 4 i had an 8 . Both holes i suffered pull shots so its bad news when out of bounds was left on both tees. On the plus side the weather was fantastic and i thoroughly enjoyed myself.

2nd round of two day club champs, had an argument over rules on 2nd hole ( I was right and doing it FC's way would have cost me 5 shots) walked off and got to my other club in time for monthly medal. Started with a double followed by a ten on par five second. Putted badly and made buffer.

Yep, scored double, single, single, single, so half my shots gone in 4 holes. Parred in the front nine for an on handicap 5 over at the turn.
Cue single, treble start to the back nine. Birdie, single, and then it went pear shaped, properly.

Ok drive, pulled second, shanked chip shot hit my fellow competitor, which saved me from going in the bunker. Chip and two putts for a double.

Birdie.

Par three, scored a 7. Awesome. Such golf. Me at my best.

Birdie, par finish for a net 75, which will, for handicap purposes be a 72, so buffer.

Wow, I'm so steady. So consistent.

Frustrating day for me too in the monthly medal.

Poor start had me +11 after 7, then 4 pars on the trot to get back to 1 over handicap, 3 of those could/should have been birdies (putting was awful all day). Then threw an 8 in for good measure after a semi shank into some woods. OK run in which left me needing par on the last to make buffer, made a tricky downhill 4 footer to sneak buffer as long as CSS doesn't come down which it rarely does.

37 points in yesterday's Stableford. I hit 2 GIR and had 10 one putt greens. Approach play hopeless, short game top notch (until I missed a three footer on 18).

So not a similar weekend at all then, Fenwayrich! I could only dream of 37 points - think I got 29 or something, and that was only down to 2 pars and 2 birdies!
