Not sure why I am posting this on here, well I am really at a time when NHS complaints are being thrown about.

One week before Xmas my dad went into hospital with stomach problems and today, only 6 weeks later cancer took him from us. Every member of NHS staff were excellent from start to finish and the care and compassion we were shown, especially from the nursing staff was exceptional.

We should be proud of our doctors and nurses who deal with situations like this every day but you never appreciate how good they are until you really need them.

I could not deal with what they face every day and so I thought I would say the most public thank you I can to the people of Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Oh Greg, saddened by your loss matey. Fantastic you can praise the hard working guys and girls that helped your dad.

Best wishes mate.

And to Add, every hospital member of staff i have met either through my daughter being really quite ill, or myself with my issues have been truly fantastic.

Agreed - many, many of the front-line staff do an amazing job in difficult circumstances as I've had first hand experience of in the last 2 weeks.

My condolences on your loss!

Gratifying to hear a 'good' comment, even when the overall story is not good!

I observed and had a similar, but quite different, experience some years ago when my FiL was in his last stages - after just over 5 years living with late-ish diagnosed Prostate Cancer. While the actual care and surgical performance could hardly be faulted, the information provided to him, his wife and his direct relatives was absolutely zilch until the very end. It seemed that the medical staff were too frightened of the outcome or of possible breach of confidentiality - even though he had specifically asked that all be kept informed - to update anybody!

I have never felt more helplessly angry than that sad experience! His funeral, however, was a rather joyous celebration of his life, which included an annual meeting with a Sales rep - 36 holes, lunch and return to St Austell being one of his harder days work!

Medical and Care staff do an absolutely phenomenal job imo. Unfortunately, the system, admittedly a potential bottomless pit for funding, is so hamstrung be non-medical/care funding issues that it is imploding!

The doctors, nurses and other medical staff are always great. It's the numpty managers and politicians that are the problem! :(

Missis T was telling me she had to go to the hospice week before last to see a patient. Early nineties and was well out of it. Said patient was surrounded by all family. Guy had said nowt for hours and was "asleep", she tells me she said "Oi George"( not real name ) louder than you normally would when talking. She said a great big smile came across his face and a couple of seconds later he opened his eyes. His family was amazed, she talked to him for 10 mins, did her bits and bobs and said "Am off when ave had me kiss". He said "that will be in another 10 mins when we have stopped talking". He had his kiss and Missis T left. she said one of his granddaughters came out in tears and thanked her for another half an hour, they thought they would not get.I asked her last week if she will be seeing that guy again. She said " he probably is no longer with us".It's that side of the job she loves and will sorely miss when she finishes work next year.GB as much as this forum sometimes goes off the rails, we have sometimes "all been there" and share a common loss. It is good to talk and share. All the best for the future and many condolences.

That's sad, sad news Greg. Remember all the good times, not just the painful immediate past.

At least he's got good company in Wogan, Bowie and Frey...

Best wishes to you and yours, mate.
