When you measure an alcove and think "I've seen a lovely new chest of drawers that will fit in there a treat" make sure you take the skirting boards into account before you buy and build the new chest of drawers.....

Also, don't just measure the width of the front of the alcove and assume that it's perfectly parallel. Old houses have some strange angles.

I have to admit a MAJOR mistake of mine. (this could easily turn into a confessions thead)
I built a new aquarium holding 1200L in the display tank, taing time to carefully measure the doorway to make sure it woud fit through.
Finished the tank and a couple of mates gave me a hand to get it in.
Shame I measured the INTERIOR doorway which are wide enough for wheel chairs, I then found out the FRONT doorway is NOT wide enough for wheel chair access. I ended up taking out half the door frame to get the tank into the house.
Here's an old pic of it soon after it went in.

Measure EVERYTHING TWICE!!

Crikey......that's not a fish tank....its an indoor swimming pool!!!

It is quiet large I must admit but I love it as I built it, I designed and built the LED lighting system and I've designed it to top up the water itself and do water changes without me having to do anything. I just have to keep it clean and look after the fish.

thats a HUGE tank for 5 wee fish:confused:

is that a bend in it or just the picture?

They are 5 REALLY happy fish!! I'ts going to have discus in it when it's totally finished and I can afford the fish!

Yes it does have a bend in it

This photo from during the build shows the bend before it was cut out.

we've got two lovely leather settees in our living room, a 3 seater and a 2. Quite big they are. Trouble is, we had them delivered before I had the living room door bricked up and a smaller door put in the corner of our room so that I could hang the Plasma on the wall.
Feck knows what's going to happen when we need to change them.

At your age I doubt you will be needing to replace them.:ears:

Traditional method is to take a window out. Assuming that the window's big enough.
If its not, yer fecked and it's time for the hammer and saw.
