Hi all,

I have been playing very badly. My best mate and playing partner said a few weeks ago that he does not think I have ever hit the ball so badly, even before I had lessons or got a handicap. Way too much analysis way too many swing thoughts and I got too big for my boots. I have been playing a bit with Fundy and had a game with Imurg, both very talented golfers and I think seeing them make shots made me swing faster and try and copy some of the things I thought I could see them doing. Anyways enough of that, I had a little break and on Friday night for the first time in a while I was really looking forward to playing.

Saturday morning came and it was COLD out there, wind blowing straight though us and every time we stopped we began to “brrrrrr”. I hit the ball so nicely from the tee and that is a big part of the confidence I need in my game. It was very sticky out there and the ball had no run to the point of making pitch marks on the fairway so it was a slog but I had such a great time. I just got pure joy from the game again. A good round for me in the summer would have had a once a week birdie, some pars (maybe 5 o 6) a lot of bogeys and a few doubles or worse. Yesterday my first par was on 17 and my 2nd was on 18 but only one 7 on the card and lots of bogeys. Ill post a link to the card, it’s totally unspectacular but a really nice winter card.

There are more blacks on there than I would usually like and they were in the main down to short chips so that’s something to look at but I make the post as I had such a GREAT time. Now all that is left to do is enjoy that feeling for the rest of the week and go back in the same frame of mind next week. I’ll take 32 points on a thick cold winters afternoon.

How was your game?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex glad you had a good round today and feel like you are getting back into the groove. Steady consistent golf is nice. Wish I'd been more consistent today. Off the whites today in a stableford comp, six blobs, 30 points, very frustrating and encouraging all at once.

30 points with 6 blobs... got to see the good side to that!

Alex, I had been having similar problems over the past few weeks after a good start to the season.
I felt I was losing a bit of driving distance for some reason compared to some of my regular partners and now realise that to make up for it I was trying hit the ball even harder of the tee so was all over the place.
Played today and decided to except age creeping up on me,just time it don't hit it, had to hit a 3 wood low sometimes as well due to the wind. Hit every fairway, couldn't make all the greens but the short game was spot on (loose below the elbows) shot 78 :D Par only 68 but who cares when it was 10 shots better than the last 6 weeks.
I think rather than look at our partners we have to play our own game and to our own strengths, not to say that we can't learn by playing with better players.
Just like you I'm looking forward to the next round again which has not been the case for the last few weeks.
Hope it keeps improving for you ;)

Well done Al.
You really wern't firing on many cylinders when we played - maybe for the reasons you mentioned - but its good to see it returning.

Well done Tiger.

Just got to cut those blobs out and make then 1 pointer's at least.
Played Friday as usual and came in with a 77 for 37 points including a double and a triple(both lost balls) - both on the front 9 where I was +6. Came back in 36 (+1) so well pleased with that. 3 birdies too. Begining to see signs that the driver is on the mend, only 1 terrible drive at the 3rd (lost ball), 3 or 4 just off the fairway and 2 beauties 260+ down the middle which both set up 3 point pars.

Glad you enjoyed it, as that's why we play.

Me? shot 11 over on Thursday, with 5 3 stabs and an OB, hacked it round on Friday, 2 birdies and some rubbish, 37 points yesterday, 2 no scores, and then 40 points in a stableford comp today. Rescued a round that was going no where fast (after a 2 over par front nine) with a birdie on the last. SS will be 38 points, so should be a 0.4 cut back to 9.5. First cut this year, left it a bit late. Happy? yeah, but missed two putts of less than 18". I guess that's golf. Got up and down 4 times from 50 yards or more, so it all evens out.

Had my 2nd (of 4) lesson of the winter yesterday and things are moving forward. Having real trouble tohugh finding the time to commit to a round with everything else but I've bitten the bullet and told the lads I'll be out next Saturday in the greedie. Not expecting anything other than a nightmare but will be grateful to get out for the first time in 5 or 6 weeks.

If I had any leave to play with I'd be tempted to take a day off this week and go out. Sadly like a good round, my leave is in short supply

Glad you found the fun side of the game again Alex, I think we all go through times when we struggle with the game and our enjoyment of it. I know I have had some tough times recently too, but it sure beats shoppin with the wife! lol

I hope you continue to enjoy!!

JT
