My wife and I are at conference near Northampton next Friday, and we would like to play somewhere nearish on the Thursday. We are travelling down from Newcastle so somewhere north of Northampton would probably suit best. We played at Staverton last year which was nice but would prefer to play at more of a 'club' than a corporate type of course if you get my drift.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Northampton Harlestone
Whittlebury
Northampton County
Collingtree
Brampton Heath

Harlstone is a good course

The county course is lovely but not sure about how guests get on

Brampton heath. Played it last week, nice heathland course, I'll def be playing it again

Northampton Harlestone

My Dad is a member here. I love it, highly recommended from me. Proper members club. Visitors are ok during the week, you might struggle at the weekend. Even members can only sign in one guest on the weekend.
A drink on the terrace overlooking the lake and final holes is just a great setting.

It's called Northampton Golf Club, it's in/near harlestone.
