Had quite a few Driving woes this year, and been extremely erratic with the big stick, despite the occasional peach.

So,......tonight, I decided to give my son's virtually new Taylor Made R7 3 Wood a go, Steel shafted, which I like.

I'm not sure what it is about Steel shafted woods, but I somehow just feel the head better, and connect better, the results being quite remarkable.

Drove the 2nd, 250yds Par 4.
3Wood and 7iron on 11th, 430yd Par 4.
3 Wood to 10yds short of 14th, 287yd Par 4.

Yes, I can Drive further with a Driver, but not much further, and not consistently, so as my son isnt playing much at the mo', I think its staying in my bag for a while :D

Good to hear. At the range, if I hit my 3W well I can hit it to within 10 or 20 yards of my best driver distances, off the deck too!, easily carrying the 230-yard green, and with the range balls to boot! But generally my 3W is the most erratic club in my bag, and I don't think I've EVER hit a clean one out on the course, so I never take it out of the bag! :(

On the practice ground last night having words with my errant 3 wood (it's obviously not my fault)I must have looked like John Cleese in that film where his car is stuck in a field so he gets out and starts shouting at it and beating it with a branch 'Clockwise' i think?

Mine is hot and cold. Bit like the rest of my game recently.

Hit a cracker with it on the 12th last Tuesday. Hit a shocker on the 1st though.

If there's something I hate more than my 3W it's someone who mixes their films and TV programmes up!

He beat his car with a thin branch when it wouldn't start in an episode of "Fawlty Towers".

He got stuck in a muddy field and kicked his car then fell over in "Clockwise".

:D

I bow to your superior John Cleese knowledge! :D

My 3 wood is the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde at the moment. At the range its all sweetness and light and long and straight. Stand on the tee and it could go left (snap hook stylie) straight right (block) or right, with a bit of extra right and right hand spin to order (known as a slice). Put it away during the round and go back to the range and we start the cycle again. Perhaps its scared of being seen on a proper course?
