The course was nicely thawed today so it's the first time I've played on Blackmoor greens that aren't frozen and have been recently cut.

It's January and they're already a little bit scary

I'm not sure I have ever experience greens that slick at this time of year. On 12 and 18 I hit the front of the green but by the time I got to my ball it was several yards off.

Absolutely fabulous to putt on but I have a lot to learn about them if I'm not going to embarress myself come spring :D

Just one of the reasons I've never looked forward to a golf season so much

It's just a cruel trick played by the greenkeepers. In summer they will be slow and fluffy as they will be 'protecting' them due to the amount of play ;)

I think this last year (2014/15) has been a particularly good one for Greens!

Everywhere I've played have had Greens in pretty much perfect condition!

Back on full greens at the old homestead today. You missed the slow pace and the bobbles from the tining work carried out. Not sure how you'll cope in the summer. Guess you'll just have to hit it closer. I'll have to come over and see how scary they are for myself before the GM day

Greens are as good as you will find over the winter in the area. Mate played Hankley last week and they were not a patch on Blackmoors. Majority of the greens are raised, so drain well and it is very rare to have standing water on them.

Make sure you play the Club competition the day after the Selbourne Salver Mike. The greens are frightening.

Salver weekend is already booked. Saturday watching the future stars of the european tour, Sunday demonstrating how not to do it :D Can't wait

Is that when we all played a couple of years back Rich..?
Greased lightning doesn't really cover it as far as I'm concerned.....

I would imagine its a case of getting used to it.

Is it a case of them Rolling or Ironing the greens while there is not much growth?

I played at Lingfield yesterday, and was expecting the greens to be slow, as all the other greens I've played on this winter have been slow as anything. Not at Lingfield though, greens were rapid yesterday. Not sure why, but man they were slick.

One of the quickest putts in golf has to be when the pin on 18 is on the right and you are to the left!!

We've had an e-mail from Chairman of greens stating they are going to concentrate on getting more of a true roll than quickness this year, overly fast greens do nothing for speed of play.

It's sad that courses have to take this into account instead of tackling the root causes of slow play :(

Do you not think too fast a green is not one of the root causes then ? IMHO time taken on greens is one of the biggest causes.

Time of greens yes but thjnk that's valid regardless of the pace of the green
