So I'm in the market for a new driver and would like to get fitted for one- where is the best place to do this?

I would like to try several different makes and be given advice!

I understand I should still just be concentrating on just getting my fundamentals right but I foresee me not being able to buy much golf gear in not too distant future due to financial constraints so looking to get while I can afford it.

I know they get a bad press but was thinking of just going to American Golf as they have large selection and I would like to see what suits best- then just be up front and say want to see if I can get cheaper for price match!!!

Any alternative suggestions?

Go to Stuart at the club and ask to try out the XR as well as the Wilson range. Not only will you get a decent fit, you'll get a lesson at the same time. He'll also not push you into a sale.

I did think of going to pro but he doesn't have some of the ranges I would like to try- Cobra, R15, G30.... though would like to try XR, Vapor and 915 too that he does

Not Gordon Street. The vector system is pish. Also think its been broken for a while.

Think AG have the World of Golf store out at Clydebank. Might be worth a look.

No idea if the vector system is pish or not but it's been working every time I've been in over the last month or so.

Stock is very good at Gordon St.

Stock is indeed very good. Have bought several items from there as its handy at lunch time. Last few times I have been in (last Tuesday as example) I have been advised that the vector 2 was out of sction, I wanted to have a hit with the 850 driver.

Greeves isn't far from my work so quite interesting will check it out...

Do they price match like AG? I've never even thought of them for golf but always found any other sports equipment a lot more expensive

Wentworth- just up the road and they have excellent technology

it is also a long way from 'Highlands', just answering the OP

Not very well though! Wentworth only does TaylorMade and the OP posted that he wanted to try different makes! For those in the Wentworth area, Precision Golf, now in Byfleet - previously in Thorpe, are the best imo - but expensive and with lots of expensive temptation!
