Went into the club on Saturday and was heartened to see notes on every table about the junior section. We are trying to grow this and the main gist of the message was that kids at the club may not be dressed or behave as some members may expect. They were not condoning this but more stating that they were new to the game, learning and may not have all of the proper gear, especially at 'taster' sessions nor know the full etiquette and they are, after all, kids. The important point was that members were forbidden from taking this up with the kids in question but rather were to report it to designated people. It was emphasised that at no stage did the club want to hear about members charging across the putting green to chastise people for dress or etiquette that they felt inappropriate as had happened in the past.

Now all they need to do is stop members doing that to all guests of the club and we will have moved in the right direction.

Sounds like an excellent development. I still remember getting told off (for nothing - honest!) as a junior, put me off golf clubs for many years.

Isn't a shame that a note had to be left at all.

Brilliant idea. I remember some old duffer having a go at me in the pro shop at Crowborough when I first joined.
I was in jeans and a casual shirt, but I'd only dropped a club in to be re-gripped and was then going on shopping in Tunbridge Wells with the wife.
I'm buggered if I was going to go shopping in a pringle sweater and plus fours.

Sounds good and I hope that the (small number I imagine) of people it was obviously aimed at take notice.

Sounds great and really good to see, we had out AGM last week and our junior section is doing very well with some getting into Lee Westwoods school with one just about off scratch.

Clubs really need to support the juniors after all they are the future of the clubs.

My little one has just turned six, he can get very excited on the range or putting green if he hits a good shot. A few months ago he shouted to his coach, Johnny, Johnny did you see that. An old boy turned round and shouted to my boy and Johnny that he should be quiet and behave while at the golf club. Before Johnny or I could defend him another member on the range told the old boy to let the kid enjoy himself and that he'd have shouted and screamed if he'd hit that shot too!

Sounds like it was a hot day? Don't think anyone in the shopping centre would have objected to you taking your Pringle jumper off.

I can't believe that anyone would go shopping in Tunbridge Wells in a casual shirt and jeans - you should have got a sound telling off!

Dear Members.
Anyone found enjoying themselves will be asked to leave the course immediately !

In the case of Juniors, tell them to clear off whether they are enjoying themselves or not!

De Management.

Loving this!!!

Having worked there for 5+ years, though nearly 15 years ago, I can report that Royal Tunbridge Wells hasn't progressed in the same way as some of the other towns favoured in the Regency period!

Does (well, did) have one of the best Thai bar/restaurants and Hotel du Vin was a great Bistros, with the most comfortable Hotel beds I've experienced - we even got the same setup for home, so the 'sponsorship' was worthwhile!

A surprising distance to a really good Golf Course too, though a couple were quite new at the time!

Excellent to hear. We're running a junior academy and it's proving quite popular and so far no-one as far as I'm aware have given any of these kids a hard time when out on the practice facilities or playing a few holes with the academy organisers. Knowing my place though, it's only a matter of time before an idiot spoils it
