I read on another forum that a user had compared the 910 driver to the Ping G15 and he posted stats showing near identical smash factors for the given swing speed.

Can anyone here confirm this, or does anyone have any real golf comparison?

I would assume it depends on the golfer really.

Put them on a swing machine to get a scientific comparison...

Being a scientist I know golf is not science at all but black magic!

ooh I bet you love the term 'smash factor' does it give you a tingle in your special area?? :o :D

I spoke to the pro about the two as I have the Ping but looking at the Titleist and he said the G15 is far more forgiving on off centre strikes but when you catch the 910 it goes like god took your shot.

Tim 'SMASH FACTOR' Golfy has a ring to it but I prefer mine

G 'Long where it counts' Mulligan

Surely a lot would depend on the shaft too. Were these just basic stock shafts or custom fit?

TBH, I not surprised that there is not a lot in it - probably not much difference if you throw the R11 and the latest from Nike in the too.

Most of the 'difference' comes down to what the person whose hand the club it in likes the look of. Golf is a confidence game a lot of the time - that's why we all go through spells when we can't drive to save our lives or shank or irons, or duff chips or three putt for fun.

I love how forgiving my G15 is, it means I can confidently stand on a tee and know I am putting it down the middle. When it doesn't it is ALWAYS a poor swing rather than a good one not out the middle as those are always still more than acceptable!

Never hit the G15 so can't give you a comparison I'm afraid.

Have the 910 though and I do like the saying it "goes like god took your shot"!!

When you catch one with the 910 it is just stupid how good it is with very little spin (for me) and doesn't balloon at all.

I find it quite forgiving aswell, you know you've not caught it but the result is still reasonable.

Isnt the smash factor personal to the player. I understand that Alvaro Quiros has the perfect smash factor of 1.5.

The club helps but its swing speed and ball speed that gives "smash factor" as I understand it and any club could theoretically give the 1.5 that is considered the holy grail.

However the 910 Titleist is far superior to the G15! IMO

Having hit both, the 910 gets silly distance (for me) with very little effrot but the G15 gave me more margin for error and I got more return on off centre hits. Both the stock shaft and 10.5 degree and the 910 set up neutrally.

If I had to go for one over the other I'd got 910 and really focus on getting my driving working better to justify such a large outlay although I'd keep the TM Burner as the fall back

All drivers will have the max coefficient of restitution. They are all engineered to the same standard, the max they can be according to the rules. The shafts can be different, true, so club head speed etc can vary.

Smash won't vary. It's a constant. Speed in versus speed out. It is a Club head contact thing. They are all the same if they are middled.

Low spin heads like the titleist will deliver a longer distance than a higher spin head like the g15. For the right golfer. But they must be less forgiving.

Chris

wot he said^

correct me if i'm wrong...... but smash factor is how efficiently you transfer your clubhead speed into ball speed, and is attributable to you and not the club - things like angle of attack, horizontal plane etc all have their effect

i would expect that the aforementioned Quiros will be able to put up a 1.50 with a G15, R11, 910 et al

I am not in a joking mood today. Please don't make silly jokes.

Too sexy for my Pings!

If that's not a silly joke .......

:D :D :D :D

I would love to get a full driver fitting but lack the funds and I have plenty of success from my G15 with a custom fitted shaft.

I doubt if I spent the works on a new driver and shaft I would take even a shot off each round. With my G15 I hit so many fairways and usually drive about 230-240 at least that I cant see where I would gain massivly.

I went from a G10 to a G15. Worst move I ever made. I was nutting my G10 and like a fool thought the G15 had to be an improvement. Wrong!!
Hitting big draws/hooks with it, or pulling left big time.
Tried to go back to the G10 afterwards, but the damage was done.
Now getting used to my i15 and love it.

Your right...but, at Dunbar golf club, fitting cost nothing and I tried various shafts out on the course before I even went on the machine. Less spin into the wind is a big bonus. Oh, I was hitting my G10 well before I got my Titleist.

Less spin into the wind is a big bonus.

Couldn't be more spot on Tommo. The last few weeks when it's been really windy mine has been a great help into the wind. Tee it low and it stays a few feet off the ground rather than climbing up and stalling into the wind and veering wildly off to left or right.

This is what I found with many drivers I tried at my fitting. The head/shaft combo was putting mahoosive amounts of spin on the ball but the D3 with the RIP shaft bought it to a sensible level.
Best driver I've had since my original Great Big Bertha (circa'97!)
