I am considering getting a 9 hole playing lesson with a local pro. I have had the standard range based lessons and also with the video swing analysis but have never had a playing lesson. Do you think you get more out of this than a range lesson and what should I expect from it?

Playing lessons are really useful I find, it gives your pro a chance to see how you play on the course and sometimes you will have issues that do not show up on the range.

It is also very useful for course management tips.

I had one a few years ago, more of a strategy lesson more than anything else, but some are different I would guess

I've had two. One on my own ages ago and one with HID. Was really useful and would like another one. My first one was more when I was a beginner so included course management and reading greens. Our Pro just observes you for the first two holes and then gets to work on you. On my second one he picked up that I wasn't always aiming where I thought I was:o and made me use my three wood off the deck amongst other things.

I've had 2 and found them very useful.

One was Strategy, which wasn't really needed but confirmed a few of my thoughts.

The other was on a (rather tough) Par 3 course - practical set-up, chipping and putting - which was more useful than I expected. too much chipping!

Had one a few weeks back. Really useful. He got me thinking about my strategy, club selection etc. He gave me a few pointers on putting. I was struggling to take range form to the course and he could see a few things that contributed to that. Well worth it

Pretty much this,

Back from a course lesson tonight and we have found exactly why I miss too many greens from 150 yards and in.... I'm buzzing!
