Newbie here still not decided on first club to join. Played a lovely 9 hole course with 18 different tees, the course is old nene near Ramsey. Some lovely holes played around and over a cut with boats going by.
Should I consider joining a 9 hole course such as this. The clear advantage I can see is being able to play a quick 9 holes during the week when work constraints make 18 holes impossible. Plus the course is only 5 miles from home. Any thoughts please.

I've only played there once, but as you say it's a lovely course.

pidley also have a 9 hole course, the manor which is nice, as well as the church, 6 holes and the 18 hole lakeside lodge course; not forgetting the par 3!

membership at the later starts from £50!

The main course at Ramsey is really nice, played it for the first time last weekend with a mate who is a member and it was fantastic; will join next year, just need to get some practice in.

As long as you like the course I see no reason why you shouldn't join. I'm not far away from there and have played the course a couple of times and enjoyed it too.

Old Nene is on the up by all accounts. Big investment by the new owners and new clubhouse almost finished. I hear they have land to make it an 18 hole course too. Go for it!

Indeed I used the range last week and the new clubhouse looks impressive - I'm looking to move close by, the futures bright!

I joined at pidley purely because of the varsity of courses you get for your money. I do like Ramsey, if you could play it all year round I would seriously consider it.

It is for these very reasons that I am currently a member of a 9-hole course 6 or 7 minute from my home :)

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like I will be joining old nene. I was not aware that they had got hold of more land to make it 18 holes. That would be some investment.

I'm a member of an 18 hole course which has the front and back 9 split nicely in half, so the front 9 end at the club house and back 9 start from the club house, making 9 holes during summer very achievable.

Another course I considered just have one continuous long 18 hole course with no halfway point making 9 a quick 9 holes not that quick considering its a looong walk back to the club house after doing only 9.

I play a 9 hole course, and its great for playing a couple of holes here and there, especially of time is a factor.
I maintain my handicap through the 18 hole medals, but really enjoy being able to nip down for 3 / 6 or 9 holes in an evening.
As long as you enjoy playing, and the facilities meet your needs, the size of course should not really matter

I thought about joining a local 9 hole course recently but eventually opted for an 18 hole club. Was just concerned that the shorter course would be busier, having a lower capacity.
Given that if, say, the 18 hole course had 18 groups out (maybe unlikely most of the time) it would work with just a bit of a wait on the tee/fairway maybe.
those numbers on a 9 hole would obviously mean half the groups would be waiting to play the next hole.

is that an issue for you 9 hole members?
