7 or 8 of us off up to Killeen Castle (host to Solheim Cup) on May 31st , its Black Tee Sunday & @7661 yards none of us have any illousions of 40pts or maybe even 30 for that matter , just going for the craic

Any of ye play anything that long , howd ya fair ?

Longest I've played is just over 7000 and shot one over my handicap across 36 holes inc 3 birdies.

On that form I could have taken on a few hundred more but not 600!

Really doesn't sound like fun to me, would rather play it at under 6500

longest Ive played is 7230, that was a slog, but we had been drinking till 4am then had an 8am tee time but i suppose it depends on conditions etc if all the holes are down hill or not;)

Yea we intend to go back & play the normal course afterwards . itl seem short ha

Should be in good condition , hoping it will all be down wind downhill , doubt it tho ha ha

7,200ish at Rockliffe Hall, and the gold tees are another 600 yards longer.
Did ya play it ?

as i say , no illusions just a mad day out

About 7,100 and too long for me. Felt a bit of a slog hitting fairway woods, and hybrids and still having some kind of short iron. Mind you it makes you realise what these top players are doing week in week out

yeah I played it a few times, beats me every time to a pulp but it's a great course and it gives a taste of what the pros are subjected to. But RH is a long walk anyway..

One of the reasons we decided to give it a bash TBH

Turnberry at 7,211 (par 70).

Phoning up tonight as they are doing a special stableford comp, before they rip it up and do the changes. Its called "from the tips", and you play off the actual tiger tees, and they are putting the pins in the exact same spot as the final day for the 2009 open, iirc.

Special to play it as the pros do, I'll take 25 points now, please.

All of those sound great as a one off experience, not sure I'd be keen on a weekly basis!

Without wishing to hijack the thread, what's the longest course people play their medal golf on?

My place is about 6,900 for comps.

They have 2 comps a year from the Blue tees which are a couple of hundred further back and par drops by 1!

I'd love to do that Turnberry comp as should be a great experience. That's very long at a par 70.

I played the Grove in the Back on Black a few years ago, at just over 7,100 yards.
I managed 34 points - which I was very happy with.

I didn't find most holes to be excessively long just the odd one. It was tough to hit the par 5's in two and the par 3's seemed longer than normal.
But then again our tournament tee is just under 7,000 so the difference isn't too great.

I play the forest of arden off the blues on a weekly basis at the moment. measures just over 7300 with a few changes they made. Its hard bloody work when it's wet and no roll

Dundonald links "back to black"

Course was around 7100/7200 can't really mind now, but it was tough going. 7600 will be a beast!! Even the blue monster isn't that long

Out of the 130 field only 5 managed to break 80, and only just it was won with a best scratch of 78. And there were lots of good players in it.

We are normally set up between 6800 and 7000 - as a senior I get to play those comps (and matches) from the short yellow set up at only 6450 😂

Long courses tend to have wide fairways and big greens to aim at.

Banging driver at every hole.

Wee tight tracks with lots of trouble can be equally as hard.

I tend to play better on the longer wider ones.

The 17th must be a real slog from the back markers. There must be a lot of people that don't reach the dogleg.

Indeed many of the handicap golfers don't make the green in 3 shots...but then again there are seniors who have hit an 8 iron into the green for their 3rd as well 😊
