The pro at my club has recently retired, the new guy has taken over and is currently restocking the shop.

theres a set of AP2's 4-PW in there with a sign saying 'make an offer'. Now I guess they are probably ex-demo, however there is literally not a mark on them.

thinking of hitting a few balls in the monitor to see what they feel like.

so assuming they feel ok and are the right length etc, what would your 'offer' be. I have a number in mind but am looking for a sanity check before I go in there later on.

Anything around the £350 mark would be acceptable. If it were me I would go in at £300.
This, I have just purchased a set of 712's in lovely condition for £200 and they are fantastic, don't know how they could have improved them since but by all accounts the 714's are great.

I have the 714 ap1s, and they are a good club for me. I play off 21 hcap. You have not said what your Hcap is, as I believe the ap2s were for the better player, IE not as forgiving. I would promote Titliest all day but don't get all "shiny magpie eyes".
£300 is still a good amount and with the sales now on there may be some good club sets going on. If they are good for you then £300 is excellent news.
you mention 4-pw, do you currently use a 4 iron as a lot of people on here seem to be ditching 4s and goin hybrid. If you don't use the 4 iron use it as a bargaining angle to lower the price😜
Good luck and let us know how you go on me man.

I'm a 10 hcp at the moment, down from 16 when I joined the club 2 years ago.

good shout re the long irons, I currently only carry up to a 6 iron, with 24 and 21 degree hybrids.

will have a chat with the pro when I pick my car up from the club later and see what sort of deal he is prepared to do.

I would go in with a £200 quid cash offer, pretty sure you would get them for under £300 for cash.

200 isn't even close to the going rate on ebay.

But look at the figure I suggested he would get them for, ie under 300.
It's just negotiation, " make me an offer" means he just wants to shift them, possibly didn't cost him anything, maybe the Pro got them free, can't be arsed with eBay or money going through the books.

My club shop are selling ex rentals ap2 for £319 the last I checked, if it was me I would go in at £270-£280 and see what he says.

I was fitted for them by titleist and went with 5-PW with the xp95 s300 shaft, great iron and you will love them

Didn't get there until after the shop had closed today, so will see him on Wednesday instead.

thanks for all the responses, they are a stiff shaft which is a change from my regular shafts, but if they work well on the simulator I think I'll start the bidding at 250, but will happily pay 350 for them.

Tried them out on Wednesday, hit a bucket of balls on the range with the 6/8/PW. Quite a big tailwind on the range so distance was tricky to judge, but seemed to be striking it quite well.

Chanced my arm and asked the pro if I could try them out on the course, he didn't have a problem with it, so off I went.

Hit some really nice approaches and tee shots, and by the time we finished I'd decided I wanted them, and would pay up to 350 for them.

A bit of negotiation with the pro and I am now the proud owner of a set of shiny new toys, and can't wait to get back out on the course with them tomorrow.

Even more pleased to have got them for £275, including a full fitting session and any tweaks that may be required next week.

Great deal! Hope they serve you well

That's a brilliant deal, you've pretty much stolen them at that price!! :)

Hope you get on well with them.

They went pretty well today, haven't worked out my new yardages yet, I think they are probably a club longer, but they feel so nice when I find the centre.

Ended up with 33 points having hit 4 or 5 really dodgy drives, so pretty pleased.

Will be interesting to see what tweaks come out of the fitting session.

Sounds like the start of a long and beautiful partnership
