Jason kokrak has just hit an 8 iron into the same hole. These guys really do play a completely different game to us amateurs.

I went into one par 5 on RCP last year with a 8 iron I think it was - massively wind behind

I have no problem with guys being able to hit 7 or 8I into Par 5s from the middle of the fairway. The problem I have is that they can do what Adam Scott did and hit it over the fans on the left and find an almost perfect lie in what they laughably describe as rough. There is absolutely no point cutting the fairways so narrow and having no penalty for missing it.

It is a bit frustrating to compare tour golf to amateur level sometimes. It they are missing fairways it's often better for them when the miss it well and go to a spectators area. Saw that quiet a bit at the Irish Open in Portrush and RCD. A slight miss landed them in trouble but a few yards further off line was a lucky break. Ball would likely be lost for players at the course any other day of the year but resulted in a decent lie in trampled down rough. Still they need to play it regardless and some of the shots I witnessed were sublime even if the shot that put them there was a little less impressive.

I get all that but this had nothing to do with the rough being trampled as there was no rough to trample. It's great watching these guys belt the ball miles but I would like to see a premium on accuracy and most of the time on the PGA Tour there isn't. It's just whack it as far as you can and don't worry about the result. We keep hearing that courses are being lengthened to keep up with the players and technology but if they made them narrower then they wouldn't need to. The rough needs to be longer and the bunkers more of a hazard is my view.
