Quick one.

Ball position for a 7 iron for me is normally middle of stance, but struggled with overdraw today at range so moved a good bit forward and now I'm back in soft draw territory.

Where do you place yours?

All of my irons ball positions are pretty much in the middle of my stance, I have found out that going too far back is where the shermans come from!

Id say just in front of centre. Keep the weight behind the ball on your back swing, good shoulder turn and full extension and follow through :) easy game!

classically there are 2 schools of thought -

1. off the same point as all the other irons - somewhere between the left foot and the centre
2. just right of the point you would have it for a 6 iron - on the basis that you progressively move it right as the irons get shorter with a wedge in the middle

which ever works for you (oh, and on that note there's also Fish's approach..... :))

Draw some lines on a range mat to work out where centre is, quite often you will be surprised! If asked to put the ball in the middle I always but it about 3 inches too far back!

totally agree that there's a significant variation in where people think 'centre of the stance' actually is in practice!

I put everything 7-SW just left of centre, then go half a ball width left for everything 6-driver if that makes sense

Although I occasionally play my 6 frm the just left of centre point, depending on how I feel
