i hit my 6 iron 155yds...this doesn't include any roll. Is this good, bad or indifferent. What, if anything, might i do to improve this...?
How far do you hit yours?
Cheers

Looks ManU are heading out of Champions League...! They were so unlucky its unreal!

:D:D:D

155 yards is good for a 6 iron if its always straight. To improve your distance try doing some flexibility exercises (good Titleist website but dont know link). Im not going to say how far i hit mines as we'll get the i hit mines xxx yards , you know what i mean ;)

But will the last minute be the 15th minute of extra time?

Ditto for how far, does it matter. Sometimes a 6i is 140, sometimes 180. Depends on me, the weather, the course, the ground, the wind, etc.

As long as you have decent gaps through the set, who cares.

Same as Murph......
Alot of factors have to be taken into account.....
Theres a club in the bag for every distance in any weather for any given course.
The tough job is trying to figure out which one it is..... :D :D ;)

Hit a 7 iron yesterday 195 yds. Absolutely true!!

Slightly downhill lie, 155 yds (approx to the pin), perfect strike :) slightly pulled, hit a downslope to the right of the green, and carried on rolling. :(

Moral? Accuracy is far more important than kudos as to how far you can hit a particular club.

Find out through practice how far on average you hit your clubs, and then concentrate on accuracy.

Doesn't matter how far you hit it, it's the direction it goes fella!

It matters if you know how far you hit it, which I think was the point of the original post, although the right direction clearly helps too.

I use a 6 iron for 165 carry with no wind.

As well as the direction, which is obviously important, it's also important to hit it the same distance (within a few yards) most of the time.

No good being a big hitter if it might go 170 or might go 190!

Only good if you can do it with consistency but distance is a factor and 155 carry is about average I'd say for a 6 iron.

As for Man Utd...... Made my day and in some way redresses the balance for the luckiest and most unjust win ever in their "treble" year. There again what self respecting Bolton fan would say otherwise! :D :D :D

I hit mine about 160 but agree that distance isn't important, consistency and accuracy is. If you know you hit it 155 or there abouts every time then don't worry what others do. Also don't forget your 6 iron may be a degree different from mine which would account for the different yardage. As long as your 6 iron length is roughly between your 7 & 5 iron length, that's all that matters

Playing at Walton Heath yesterday, got to the 17th a testing par 3 with what appears to be an island green from the tee. Short and you are in big trouble. I think it was playing about 170 from the tees we were off, but was downwind.
Two of the fit young lads I played with hit 7 irons. The other guy hit a 6 iron. Me? I'm an old duffer slowly losing my distance, so hit a 5 iron, although I made a point of teeing it up a little higher to get a bit more height on it. I hit the green and made par, two of the other guys made bogie. The scorecard doesn't paint pictures...
;) ;) ;)

Who cares how far you, me or anyone else hits any given club. Its about hitting it straight and going round in the fewest shots possible.

I've been thru my bag and there is around 10 ish yards between clubs...i hit 20 balls in each of 3 sessions on the range and took the mean yardage...conditions were pretty calm. I'm hitting the ball very straight with a slight draw. The point of the post was to see if 155 (not including roll) was comparable with my peers...

I'd say it's about average for us mere mortals, taking into account the loft of your 6i as I said above.
