Just heard Ken Brown say the greenkeeper takes 2 hours to cut the 5th green at St Andrews walking 7.5 miles in the process. And he double cuts it, morning and afternoon so 30 miles walking a day, just for the 5th green. I've just watched 3 times to make sure I heard him right !!!!!!!!

Loved it when he took a full swing with the putter and still only got about half way to the pin!!

I'm not surpised, From that distance I could hit lob wedge and still have an 8 footer for par :D

Better get my 5 wood out then. That is some acreage and I hate to think how many 5 and 6 putts the average golfers must have in a day there

That's probably what I'd do. I did the same from the front of the 18th at the Brabazon. That wasn't even half as far.

By the sound/look of it, if you came up on the front of the green, you either hit a bad 'un or were hitting totally the wrong club. (or were there for 2!)

It's a par 5? so in theory if you knew the distance, it'd be no different to hitting to a normal green. You'd certainly need the "yardage of the day"......could take some time to work it out though. Imagine you'd played two decent shots and knew you were 150 from the centre......you might need to only play 100 or nearly 200.....that's some choice!!! :)

You'd also be unhappy not to make GIR.

It is massive!

Here's me lining up my first putt there. I think it got half way.

Actually the greens are fairly flat, thank God, so get the pace right and they're not so problematic.

I remember playing at Carnoustie one year. Can't remember which hole it is now (about the 4th or 5th) that shares it's green with another hole. I hit a lovely approach shot in there after a good drive. And then my playing partners all started laughing as I had hit it at the wrong flag!! :D :D :D
I four jerked that one

One thing's for sure, from a couple of hundred yards out or less you'd be damn annoyed not to hit that green, wouldn't you?!

if i missed it id drop another, if i missed that id walk off ans stick my clubs up for sale. pretty simple.

Infact, knowing how bad my putting is from 20 yards, id rather leave it short and get the vbokey out from just off the fringe, atleast i have half a chance of getting that there.
