As santa was pretty good to me this year and left me some cash under the christmas tree i am looking at replacing my battered and worn sand plus lob wedges.

I currently have a 56 and a 60 degree wedge but i am tempted to go for just a 58 degree, has anybody else made this change in there bag?? would you recommend it or alternatively would you advise against it?

56 is my most lofty. Used to have a 60 but lost it somwhere and havnt missed it. I no have 48,52 and 56

I have a 58 degree wedge and love it, 60 degree is too difficult for me to use effectively and rarely came out of the bag, the 58 degree gets far more use.

When would you ever use the 60 degree wedge? It just isnt needed ive found. I use PW, 52 and only added a 56 this summer. The 56 goes miles in the air, its so high, so all you have to do is adjust your backswing for the length you want the ball to go.

I have a 60, which I bought a couple of years ago thinking its a wedge, will complement my PW. It didnt, I only ever used it in sand but now I have the 56 its out of the bag.

If you were to go down that route, I would bet you'd find that you would feel that you should use it, because its in the bag, and this would cost you shots. I think a 56 on its own, or with a 52 and PW will be fine.

I use my 60 a lot during the summer months from 40 yards in, never really use it with a full swing. I dont seem to get a lot of spin with my wedges so being able to throw it up high helps me get more control.

I've had a 58 for years now.
Sometime with a 52 and the PW, sometimes with the PW, 50 and 54 depending on PW loft.
Haven't used a 60 for ages, the 58 does all the things a 60 does but it easier to use.

54, 56 and 58 for me. Different clubs for different situations and I don't need the space for anything else

Yep i moved from 56/60 to 58 mid way through last season. Best thing i done.

Very rarely used the 60 however i find myself using the 58 alot from 80 yards in

I agree with this. I currently carry 53 and 60 but thinking of dropping down to 58. Really only use the 60 from sand although my course does have some pretty deep pot bunkers so it comes in useful.

used both combinations in the past but prefer the 56 / 60 rather than just the 58.

for longer shots prefer hitting the less lofted wedge, even if its just a 3/4 or half swing got better consistency with a 56 rather than a 58.

use the 60 less but like it around the green where you can hit it a touch harder than the 58 so it helps to avoid decelerating.

hitting fuller shots with a 58 / 60 I just got under the ball too frequently and didn't get consistent distance with them.

I have done this, the 60 was a pointless club to carry as the number of times I found myself in a lie that meant I could safely use the 60 I can count on one hand. It might only be 2 degrees but a 58 is a much more usable club.

it's all about the bounce, a 56 will have a lot of bounce for bunker work and softer conditions, 60 tends to have less bounce for firm conditions, I find my 60 great in the summer when I have to stop it on the green. watch the bounce on the 58 and think what you need it for.

A specialist wedge fitter/manufacturer, formerly working on European Tour, told me earlier this year that any amateur above Cat 1 is extremely unlikely to have the skills needed to be anything like consistent with 60 deg (and above).

I would tend to agree with HawkeyeMS that it may only be a 2 deg difference yet the 58 will be far more user friendly.

I have my PW for approx 110-120 yards (full swing), 52 for 100ish yards (full), 56 for 80ish yards (full) and sandy bunkers, and 60ish for 60 yards (full) and very tight lies / compact sand.

TBH my 56 is probably my most used wedge and I rarely get the 60 out these days, although with the very wet weather and the compressed/compact sand, I used it quite a bit at the weekend. If I was to drop one though, it would probably be that as I use it so infrequently these days.

I have three wedges 52, 56 and 60 deg,, i only use the 60 deg in bunkers......my clubmaker advised me to have 4 clubs from 100 m and inwards, pitch and 3 wedges----honestly im not sure if i need 4 clubs there---but followed the advise.....

Well I have 54 and 60 , I have no problems with either club , know your distances and learn how to hit half 3/4 shots

Takes a lot of practice , I used last winter to practice half and 3/4 shots , really comes in handy

.

could you ask him to join the cat4 guys cannot hit 300 yard drives threads too.

my cousin plays off 13 and uses a 64 all around the greens. at times he delofts it a serious amount but he has practiced it and it works well for him.

its the same as anything, if you spend enough time mucking around with a 60 wedge it can easily become a good friend!
