Hi all

I'm about to move from Tonbridge to st Leonards so the Mrs commute to school for her and our 4 year old will go from 50 miles per day down to 4.... So there's really no need for the insignia 2.0 diesel estate that we have now since we stopped having to carry push chairs etc

Anyways, we're looking to downsize and going on small cars we've found with decent sized boots the corsa looks like it fits the bill.

Has anyone got/had a 5 door? (Around 2014). Any experience/tips? What's it like on motorways and fast A roads?

Also time to start looking for a new golf club.... I move in 2 weeks time. Gulp.

I’ve only ever driven small cars on motorways. 1 and a 1.4.

What’s the difference as I’ve never had any issues and even did fortnightky 200 miler in the 1l without issue for over a year. Maybe I was younger back then as I was in late 20s.

For 40 years I have always had 1.6 or 1.8 cars.
I loved driving my wife's Fiesta 1.3 so I bought another Fiesta for myself 1.2.
Once I sorted out first and second gears I loved it.
Much cheaper to run as well.
Unless you normally break the speed limit and hog the outside lane looking like a knob, it also drives a treat on motorways..

Base model 1.2 it's very light but if you go to the top of the range with all the toys 1.4 is better as its a heavier car.
Both good cars but on motorways you know you are in a small car.
Town driving it's a great little car.

Cheers guys, that was my thoughts really... I'm sure they can cruise all day at 70, just assume if you want to overtake you need to plan it a bit rather than just power past.

As for clubs... Cooden is on my list, as well as beauport, highwoods and one other which escapes me at the moment.

Beauport is a killer. An absolute killer. First 4 or 5 holes will lull you in to a false sense of security, but then it starts. I've never played such a tough course in my life. Not only the walking (which will sort the men out from the boys) but some of the toughest par 4's I have ever played. The only redeeming feature is that it's cheap.
Highwoods??? Nice parkland course, but I left due to the attitude of some of the members. They can be very "snobby" and I didn't like the fact that there are so many established "groups" within the club, who tend to tie up the most popular tee times, especially at week-ends.
Cooden is great, (I'm going to say that aren't I?). Easy walking, a great mix of holes, and friendly members. I love it there. Only problem is that like most courses close to the sea, (despite what they say, Cooden isn't a links), it is affected more than most by the wind. Get it on a flat, calm day and it can flatter your golf. But you don't get many flat, calm days at Cooden!!
They offer a cheaper, "flexible" membership scheme too, which is a great idea if you are not going to be playing that often.
If you need any more advice, give me a shout.
As for cars, have you looked at the Peugeot 208? 1.2 engine and surprisingly nippy (guess what I sell).

I have played Beauport a couple of times..... the hills dont spring to mind to be honest, but when you're as young, fit and sexy as me these things didnt bother you ;)..... only problem now is I'm much fatter, older and grumpier. I'm going to try and play it on the 20th as I'm hoping I should be moved into the new house over that weekend and I can reward myself with some golf.

I havent looked at the 208.... but will take a gander. What we're essentially looking to do is get as close to a "swap" for our car in terms of value. Which garage are you at?

I'm at Yeomans Peugeot on the main A259 in St Leonards (main road between Bexhill and Hastings).

Have you had your car valued???
Insignia's suffer from some of the worst depreciation around.
:eek:oo:

Slm vauxhall are doing it at the moment (very slowly via email) .... They do have a corsa we might be interested in.

From what be seen on auto trader it hasnt lost too much, but maybe I'm basing that on how bad depreciation can be so my expectations are low.

We paid £10k for it in January 2015.... Private sale now it's probably £6k, so would assume a part ex of around £5k..... Guess this shows how I view "not bad" depreciation.

That’s a hell of a drop an estate to a corsa? An Astra would be almost a compromise as you would have some boot still

I like my second car the civic due to the huge boot for Golf

My uncle always said once you downsize from an estate you miss the boot space as you never realise just how useful it was
