I am currently looking at joining my first club next year and have come to the agreement with HID that I'll go for a 5 day membership. Save a few quid and gives the gurantee that i will be at home at some point. Don't want to start a debate as to whether 5 days are fair on everyone as thats had a lot of coverage. Just curious what peoples thought on a fair price.....?

it will really depend on the club, its location, course and current membership etc

there isn't a generic 'fair price'

have you enquired with all the local clubs to you or looked on their websites?

i think we only have one club up here that offers 5 day membership, most clubs are cheap comp with what you pay further south.

i was thinking about it myself as this club is only a drive away from home, but its only a few quid cheaper than full membership which is just not worth it

It's £595 til Jan 2015. Its quite nice there, just had a revamp and is literally a mile from a door. Few others in area offer it at around £750 but with the extra travel probably add another £200 to that.

What is a fair price? That depends on the club, location etc... and whether the club is trying to attract new members. The club I joined was after new members and were offering new member deals of £480 held for two years, for a 6 day membership.

Surely it depends when you are able to play, For someone with a Monday to Friday 9-5 job, its almost impossible to play without taking holiday, therefore the only people who can play within a 5 day membership are those who are retired, unemployed, self employed or shift workers.

I cant play weekends because of family commitments, but im self employed, so I can fit it in, our 5 day membership is £550

Its fair to say that most of the better players will play weekends, this will effect the playing level of the field in midweek rollups etc

I think 5 day options are a good idea as the course is often quiet, especially in the winter

What about comps if you decide you want to do those. Mens ones are a Saturday at ours. Apart from the midweek stableford over Summer.

When I first joined my club I could only get in as a 5 day member. I was allowed to play in the weekend comp's if I paid half a normal green fee. Did this for a couple of comp's only.

Ah, ours doesn't do 5 day membership so wondered how it would work.

Can pay 15 to participate in rounds. There is a midweek too. I work shift and have more time in week for golf than weekend so would be playing in too many.

It depends on the course, accessibility to play when I could get out midweek, and if you think the price tag represents value for money for the number of games you'll play. Personally I couldn't make it work as I work full time but if you can pay midweek enough to make it viable then go for it.
