Coming from the Black Country, the joke from over there when you tell people that you play golf is "All yow need mar mon is a Pisser and a Putter!".

This got me thinking to arrange a competition with my mates to only take 5 clubs (one of which obviously has to be the putter) for a round, as surely this will really be a test of your skill than having 14 clubs to choose from.

I would take the following:-

Driver
3iron hybrid 19deg
7iron
SW (56deg)
Putter

Have any of you lot tried this before?

Alot would depend on what course i'm playing..

My last club used to have the 3 clubs and a putter comp at xmas time. You would be supprised at the high (stableford) scores that used to come in. I think having so few clubs does'nt confuse your choice, and you have to manufacture a lot of shots.

For me on my home course now it would be

3 wood
#4 rescue
8 iron
sand iron
Putter

3 fruit ones, a plain one and a mint one....Mmmmmmm

Cripes why did they get rid of those Jacobs Clubs - only matched in chocolate biscuit land by the perennial favourite Kit Kats.

As a youngster I was once paid in Club biscuits rather than cash for cutting firewood.....seemed like a good deal at the time!

Depends on the course....
Some courses I would take Driver/8 iron/9 iron/PW/Putter

Others it would be 3W/5 iron/7 iron/PW/ Putter.

Interesting thought on club selection here. I think I'd drop the driver or 3 wood and go with an all irons assembly.

I'd base this on what clubs are likely to be more usefull on short par 4s and the par3s. Two 4 irons into a short par 4 are just the same as a driver and a wedge, but I can play the 4 off the turf more easily than the driver!

I'd go for 4,6,8, 52°W & putter. But thats my selection for my home course.
