5 Club Challenge

Playing a 5 club match against a mate of mine in the morning, never done it before so any advice oh wise forum?

My bag consists of the following;

Cobra DWS Hybrid (4 iron replacement)
5-SW Irons
60 deg LW
Putter

I fancy the Cobra,7 Iron,PW and LW (putter obv) for the game.It's match play on scratch he's 18 I'm a 28 (but feel a bit of a bandit because I can hit it really well for a good few holes these days)

He's in his 50's and can't hit it too far but chips well and putts like a god whereas I can hit it much further but can't putt to save my life

Any advice on how to win?

If i had your bag, I would go for:

Hybrid, 6 Iron, 8/9 Iron, SW, Putter.

driver 6 iron 9 iron hybrud and putter.

Me and My friends do the 3 club challange i use my driver 6 putter or driver 6 iron 9 iron and putt with my driver.

I would perhaps lose the lob wedge for another club, but then again I dont know your course. I suggest you dont think about what he does, just concentrate on your strengths. If his short game and putting are very good and you feel yours are not as good, you may have your work cut out for you off scratch. Dont overdo it, concentrate on getting on those greens with the minimum of fuss, most of all, relax and enjoy it.

I would go hybrid,7,9 and sw that would make it possible to hit most par 4s and 3s in reg

One thing for sure, don’t take it too serious….just have fun.

Anthony, I would go with the Cobra, 5, 8 PW and putter. Where you playing?

Cheers Andy I'm playing at Ellesmere Port mate not exactly Augusta but only 1 temp and proper tees so should be ok.It's another early start (7;42am!!!!)

I think it's going to be Cobra as I can hit this off the tee and the deck with a fair bit of distance.7 Iron again I can hit this quite well to the 150 mark.9 Iron and SW for the scoring clubs.

We might even be playing for a pint so pressure on!

Probaly left by now but if I were you I would take cobra, some long holes at the port take ya 6 8 sw putter. Not really anything there that you'll need a Lw for that the sw can't do.

Can always grip down on the 6 for a 7 and grip down on the 8 for a 9.

Use your shots. If you have an extra shot dont take on greens out of ya depth. Lay up and stick it close. Don't worry about g.I.r's they won't won you the match. 3 easy shots up the long par 4,s and 2 putts will give you net
pars.

Personally I'd choose:

Hybrid , 6 iron , 9 iron , 56* SW , putter.

Got well and truly beaten by the 13th I had a 10b footer to stay in the game which died 6 inches away

I went out with Cobra 23 degree DWS,7,9 and SW and hardly used the 9.Truth is that on every hole I should have won I threw it away allowing my oppo to keep grinding away.

Oh and I lied about the tees it was like swamp thing today

till it beats lying in bed until 9 doesn't it?

Considering the conditions, h/c difference, scratch play and the fact that you were still in the game by the 13th, you should be pleased with your efforts.

I take it there was no butty van at the turn? What were the greens like? Gets very wet at the port, last year it was abismal(sp)

The Butty van was there in at it's glory wasn,t hungry asI passed it and then starving 2 holes later!

Greens were wet muni greens Tony.I think that says it all!
