Is it worth getting a new 4K tv?
We currently have a fairly decent smart to in the living room, it's around 42 inch, full hd, decent picture etc
But I was looking in Currys at the 4K and the look awesome, I wasn't in specifically for TVs we were getting laptop sorted for one of the girls and these TVs caught my eye.
So, worth it or not yet? Thanks

They look awesome when there is a 4k input; the problem is the amount of 4k content around is what the small independent I use advised me.

Yes. When 1080p came out I went and bought one... I was disappointed in the improvement. We bought a 4k UHD 55" LG in Jan - WOW! Blown away by the picture quality. Like a Blu-ray player, it upscales a normal HD picture, and it is a big improvement.

However, be prepared for lousy sound quality. The depth of the TV makes it very difficult to fit in a decent speaker. After a week of poor sound I went out and bought a decent sound bar... double WOW! Put it in cinema mode and put an action movie on... blows the windows out.

Like Brian, we have the 55" LG 4K run through an AV Receiver that upscale a to full 4K and it is brilliant. Watching the golf mighty as well be looking out of the window.
Sound quality I can't comment on for the LG as, as above, it runs through an amp and surround system.

4K is great though

If you have plenty of 4K content then yes.

I would get one for playing PC games on steam big picture if I had the money, space and time to play...

No point future proofing as technology is racing ahead of content and will continue to do for a while.

Hooking an Apple TV 4 up to my 7 year old TV brought it right up to date for less than 150, could have almost done the same with a chromecast if we still had any android tablets.

You can make the TV very powerful just by linking it up with a tablet these days so smart TVs are irrelivent as long as it has enough HDMI ports.

Let's hope a non-smart 4K TV comes out soon, I would buy that!

4k is excellent, most of the stuff we have is through Amazon prime. some of the BT sport stuff is on it too now. Whether its worth paying for if not needed is dubious but if upgrading anyway then worthwhile (albeit 8k may not be far away)

I purchased a 49" Sony 4K Android TV last Summer, and can honestly say it's the best television I have ever owned (and I've had a few!!).
I used to have a decent surround sound system but the Missus got fed up with all of the piano black speakers etc. gathering dust, so I swapped out to a matching Sony 4K upscaling Bluray player and soundbar at the same time.
The sound is "ok" (not as good as the surround sound system) but does us a treat in our fairly small living room and certainly looks a lot, lot neater.
I also have Humax HDR-1100S FreeSat box, SD content is very good, HD is superb.
I have watched a bit of 4K stuff that is on YouTube and some of it is absolutely awesome.
4K players have just come out now and I am waiting for the price of these to come down a little and will invest in one if more 4K discs are made available. There are only a few titles around at the moment and I just want to make sure that the studios fully support the format before adopting.
Overall, very, very happy.

thanks, I am happy to go up in size from my current 42, was looking at 55, though this may be like a cinema in my living room! lol
I had asked sky about q, but they have a specialist dept, and I didnt have time to talk it over, might be worth a call. cheers

Couple of friends have sky Q and they find the picture quality great but everything else about it not so great and plenty of teething probs. When we moved recently talked to sky themselves and decided to wait before going that way as they werent making too many promises! Depends if you dont mind being an early adopter (and hence a guinea pig)

I would jump at Sky Q except that all the stored content that is no longer available for re-download from On Demand will be lost. It is ridiculous that Sky invite you to store movies and series and then expect you to throw it away during an upgrade.

Yep, recently bought a 55" Sony Android TV with a soundbar. Ditto Hobbit's comments, first film I put on was Avengers Age of Ultron and it almost blew the windows out, the walls were pounding. The TV display quality is superb, it upscales normal HD TV. The smart features are super, Netflix in particular is very quick and smart, access to my media server also good, the soundbar bluetooth's the iphone, so no hifi system needed any more. SkyQ also updated so almost as good as it gets right now. Did notice some not so sharp pics at the players last night, but seemed (hoping) it was from specific cameras rather than an issue with the new TV/ SKY system.......

I've just installed my Sky Q Hub today, awaiting the man in a van on Thursday with my boxes. Hopefully it all goes well, if so I may treat myself to a decent soundbar
