Is it possible under CONGU to handicap golfers from betterball scores by allocating 50 % of the score to each golfer and then adjusting their handicap as a nine hole medal competition score and also assuming that they scored 18 pts on the remaining nine holes. COMMENTS!!

all this assumption on scores to adjust handicaps is a joke .
Its a 18 hole game , how many times have you blown up on the back nine or started badly but played the back nine well.
You can't assume a player is going to score a certain amount of points over a imaginary nine holes.
4bbb is a different game aggressive if pp has par defensive if not , like match play it's a different mindset to a medal card.

no of course not which asks the question who has interpreted it like this

No. You can't use better ball scores for handicapping. [CONGU Manual 17.2]

that was what i thought but lancashire golf union are using the above system to adjust the handicaps of golfers following successful results in fourball betterball competition

No! At least not under normal circumstances!

But they may be applying some logic to re-assessing handicaps of 'exceptional scores' in 4BBB comps made by 'suspicious' parings! Covered by 23.7-23.9

I know the are trying to clamp down on handicap protectors who do well in team/ 4BBB events but I am surprised they are doing that.

Handicaps are administered by affiliated clubs. How is a county involved in adjusting individuals' handicaps?

The county will not be be doing anything. They will almost certainly have advised/reminded clubs about the edict handed down by England Golf that all away 4BBB and am/am scores have to be reported back to players' home clubs. Simply bringing England into line with other national unions in CONGU.

Handicaps cannot be adjusted directly as a result of such scores but may be used as a part of a general appraisal as per app M

they can and do override the decisions of golfers home clubs handicap committees "as the governing body with responsibility"

?! In the whole time as a HC sec not once has the county got involved in someone's HC at the club.

The county will not and don't adjust anyone's HC after a 4BBB comp .

I think you may have added 1&1 and got five. The aim is for clubs to take into account BB scores when they do their annual review and EG and counties have been sending out information reminding clubs of this.

I (as the County) have just been advised by EG to tell the club to reduce a member's handicap by 2 strokes as a result of a whole sequence of open day 4BBB scores which were inconsistent with his club handicap.

But they would never do it as a result of one score.

How do EG ( I'm guessing England Golf ) know the 4BBB scores when they don't get sent to EG ?

but that would be an exceptional general play adjustment NOT a result of what i describe in the opening paragraph .handicaps severely reduced via a series of betterball scores that were adjusted as though they were 9 hole medal scores.

That is correct.
