There was an open 4bbb comp in our place on Sun . Not qualifying or anything but was played off full handicaps .. is that allowed ? 50pts winning score prob shows why its %handicaps

Or maybe something about the handicaps!

Remember that it's now 90% anyway these days, so not a lot different from Full!

TBH i think all golf should be off full handicaps but scores like this prove otherwise . But as yo say its 90% no so very little difference .. think it was a 13 &23 combinati that won . I know most of the top 3 prizes and all be honest golfers

Rather than just to penalise higher handicaps, I always thought that a reduced allowance for BB and team comps was to offset the slightly better nett scores expected when you combine the probabilities of possible scores from more than one player.

If I could remember probability from school I'd try some sums

Its recommended at 90% but some comps are run of different as per the local comp rules.

A fairly phenomenal case of ham-and-egging then! Or plenty of development over Winter.

I go with the statistics, but an see a case for some sort of reduction. A pair of low cappers are going to need some pretty phenomenal scores to compete with a 'steady eddie' mid-capper (getting 2 and occasionally 3 points) and a 'Wild Willie' higher one who blobs many holes but gets 4 points on several too! So shaving something off the high-capper could well be justified. Of course, winning isn't necessarily the main reason to enter such comps, but being 'equally competitive' is pretty fundamental to Golf's ideals!

No. It is not a recommendation but a ruling.

Appendix F

Affiliated Clubs must use the following handicap allowances for the undernoted forms of competitionwhen played as handicap events ....

It is only for Greensomes where it is a recommendation.

Other Forms of PlayCONGU® recommends the following allowances:Greensomes Stroke Play - Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4Notes:

It was pointed out at the seminars that the ultimate sanction was loss of the licence to use the CONGU handicapping system and the consequential loss of handicap of all members.

Rulefan, is that "Must" even for social events or is there a definition somewhere of "handicap event" that makes a difference?

Going back to the OP, I don't think 50 is out of range for full handicap 4BBB. We had a couple of events this winter with that format and a guy that I know (off 16ish I think) was part of a winning partnership with 49 points. He says he was carried all the way round by the Cat 1 player he was drawn with who played a blinder!

I would suggest that it applies to any formal competition that is played in one of formats recognised in the Rules of Golf and the CONGU Regulations
