Hi, when playing 4BBB I always record all scores for anyone who completes a hole. I am aware of the qualifying rules for a score to count for an individual’s handicap i.e. 42+ points, scoring on 9+ holes etc. but I wanted to know, if both players make, say, 3 points on a hole, how is this viewed for individual handicapping? Does each player get the 3 points or does one get 3 points and one get the reduced 1.5 points? How would the system determine who’s 3 points counted?

TIA

…and as OP noted…for a 4BBB score to count a player has to score on more than 9 holes (so 10 or more)…which means the other player in the pair clearly could only score on 8 holes max, so his score can’t count regardless of his points.

But as also noted…when each player scores same first player counts.

Guess the first question is why are you putting all scores down when in 4BBB it should really be only the highest score that matters and you both don’t need to putt out if you can’t beat your partners score

But there is no way for the system to know whose “3” points count , normally it appears to be the first name on the scorecard

The system has no way of knowing who holed out first, so both players are credited with 3 points for handicapping.
Where both scores are recorded, handicap committees may amend scores if they are aware of which player's score is the counting one, or even discount them for handicapping, especially if there is intent to manipulate the system.

And as others have said, only the counting score for each hole should be recorded.

But both scores must not be entered. Only the best or first (if equal).
I believe that it's should, nou must. Relevant paragraph has no mention of must:

5.10 bullet point 4.
Where both players score the same number of points on a hole, both scores are eligible to be used to create an individual 18-hole score. However, if the first player to hole out can be readily identified, the second player’s score should not count towards the team score for that hole.

You are right, however the handicapping authorities wish that players do not enter both scores.
“From the Rules of Handicapping as applied in GB&I

The standard approach to Fourball competition should continue to be used – as soon as the
best score has been recorded, the other player should pick up in order not to impact pace of
play. Handicap Committees will be justified in disregarding scores for handicapping purposes where scores for both players are recorded on a significant number of holes on a regular basis.

If I’m in a 4BBB competition and my partner holes before me and I can’t better his score I just pick up. If you want to hole out on every hole then skip the 4BBB’s and play individual stroke play competitions.

How would the software know which ball was in the hole first?
It won’t matter if the points for the hole are the same and it is also able to determine the best score when different scores are entered, unfortunately real life says people do put both scores in to the computer and there is no issue.

I 100% agree players should be picking upand only one score should be put on the card (unless they are in a Club 2’s Comp) but not every player shows commonsense.👍🏻

Not quite correct. A player has to score on a minimum of 9 holes so if both players scores count on 9 holes and the total points is at least 42 then both players scores will go on to their whs record and count for handicapping purposes.
