At ours today was a 4 ball comp best two scores count. Our group was 10,11,15,18 handicaps and we scored 92 points (18 handicapper scored well) And thought we played very well.
Found another group had shot 103 a 18 handicapper in the group was 1 under gross after 8 holes.and in our first 4 holes we have si 1&3 tough par 4's.And alone he scored 46 points.
my question is why do they never score like this in a normal comp( yes I do they never enter)
what would you guys expect to score?
Prize today a play off for a trip to Spain.

What was the format?

Just nipping out for some nuts and popcorn, be back soon.

Wonder if this will go the same way as last week's thread on this subject 😉

At this time of year everything depends on the course.

If it's under 6200 yds anything can get scored - if it's over 7000 then 90 is a really good score.

The issue is that on shorter courses higher handicaps can, but because of their handicaps they don't all the time. Put 4 in a game and it's a matter of whether they do as required.

The lower handicaps gain no great advantage because they do more often - but 4 net pars is only worth 2 net pars.

Really low handicaps can come back into it by scoring birdies and eagles, but don't tend to bother entering.

What was the handicap allowance? If it was full handicap both scores are ridiculous, but I'm assuming it wasn't.

Our course is 6550 off whites, yes full handicaps,And you can not play it from the rough either. 1st cut ok 2nd cut you have to walk on ball to find it.After second cut its 2 feet deep.

Then it sounds like the winning team played excellent golf, and probably had a little good fortune along the way.

But then it takes away a chance of a thread about 'bandits'! Playing excellent golf isn't allowed as a valid reason

anyone can play well for 8 holes. He's probably off 18 because he can't do it for a full round. Nothing you can do about others people, just enjoying playing well. Sometimes you get a prize, more often than not you won't.

This format always generates higher scores because statistically, out of 4 of you there is a strong chance that you will get a couple of 3 pointers. Which means that 110 is a reasonable score, and higher can be got quite easily. It's about combinations and permutations.
5 points on in individual hole is not actually a good score in this format - it is an average one. 6 is reasonable to good when you have 4 people going for it.

I played in one of these type of events a few weeks ago and our team won with a score of 92. We were at least 9 points better than the next team. Our handicaps were 4, 5, 6 and 8. We all played well and the worst score on one hole was 3 points. It helps when you birdie shot holes which between us we did a few times. It can be done if a team plays well on the same day, it just doesn't happen very often where I am concerned though.

Unless I've misunderstood the format (I'm thinking its am/am) 110 is a ridiculous score imo.
'Par' is 72 so 38 under is crackers.

I reckon 95% of these comps I've ever entered have been won with something in the 80's or 90's depending on the conditions.

Mid 90s is normally pretty near a winning score for these events.

There's always the possibility of some phenomenal scores - and this type of comp actually 'encourage' such scores. The great runs of Wild-Willie players (getting a series of 4+ points) become apparent, while we Steady Eddies keep the score ticking with 2s and occasionally 3s!

In yesterday's club match the 12 handicapper had 3 x 4 pointers in the 14 holes that match ran for....it happens.

I have seen the rest of the results and we were second on 92 and there were a few 90's and most in the mid 80 to late 80's.put it this way most members were shocked that the winning score was that high.
