Played at Forest of Dean golf club (Bells Hotel) on a tour this weekend and smashed Sunday. After all the beer we all scored less the following day I ended up with 36 that day so won overall by 10 points.

There were 10 of us and nobody got close so I am a bit concerned they will get fed up with being so far back - we did it last year and I scored 44 and 43 - the place just seems to suit me.

This time we gave nearly everyone else a 28 handicap when we all played off 18 last year to try and make it fairer. The 2nd place chap is a 14 handicapper and better than me but the beer got to him on the 2nd day and we had one more off an official handicap of 18 same as me who came third.

Next year I am thinking one day we play for the trophy but the other day will have to play some kind of team event to keep everyone interested.

I may well have a mare and not win next year which is fine but am a bit concerned about some of the others losing interest.

Any ideas folks?

Did you cut yourself for the second day? Maybe you should have been off 16 ;). Still would have been an 8 point win but at least the cut would have been a sign to others that you wanted to play fair.

I have played for the last 3 years in a Blackpool fans golf day. The same chap has won everytime, although I should have beaten him last year but picked up on a hole where I didn't think I had a shot but I did have. It doesn't put people off entering though.

It would me!

Your blog is very interesting

Things like this are really hard to judge, especially if most don't play regularly. I have a yearly week away, and the same guy has won 3 years in a row, but he's the only one of us that plays week in week out. We have a combined score over 2 rounds, all of us can play well and put together good scores, but doing well over the whole 2 days and 36 holes is really hard for casual golfers.

Give yourself a cut next year and see how that goes, to be fair a combined score of 78 is massive and would be hard for anyone to catch, it's not like you are scraping a win with a modest score! Also we run a pairs and singles simultaneously, so even if guys are playing bad they keep plugging away to help toward their team score, and helps toward a great atmosphere. Hope that helps!
