Was down the practice ground last night, getting ready for a last 16 knockout match tonight, and have finally decided that my 4 iron has to go. It is so inconsistent and I have lost all confidence with it.

So, I have bitten the bullet, and ordered a Mizuno Fli Hi 4 replacement, with an S300 shaft. The loft and shaft length specs look similar to my Macgregor 1025m 4 iron, so I shall see how it goes.

It will be odd carrying 2 hybrids, both numbered 4, but my TM mid is really a 3 iron.

At least the Mizzy looks a bit like an iron, so I can ditch the head cover.

Well done for having the courage to move forward. I will be very interested also in how you get on. My course demands high flying shots into greens and my irons tend to hit the ball a bit flat.

Could of got you a second hand one for buttons! Had it offered to me for a 15quid! Didn't like it.

Homer - I chose the FliHi because it looks a bit more like an iron than most hybrids. I could probably hit any cavity backed 4 iron, it is just I am struggling with the lack of forgiveness of muscle backs. The rest of the irons are fine, just the 4 and 3 are too inconsistent. I used to hit long irons really well, but something in my swing has obviously changed.

I will now have a matching pair of 3 irons, and a matching pair of 4 irons in my wardrobe. Quite soon there will not be enough room for clothes.

Tony - If you are hitting X20s I can't see any advantage in going to this sort of club. There is always someone who can get something cheaper 10 minutes after you have bought it. One of the immutable facts of life. Could be mine will be up for sale next week too, we shall just have to see, or I might just chuck it in the wardrobe too.

The set of clubs i bought last year ( Wilson 1200GE's ) are numbered 5 - SW with the 3 and 4 irons replaced by a No3 Hybrid. Having never used one before i was a bit dubious.....but it seems to be my 'go to' club for long shots into greens . Its possibly the most consisent club i can use and know that when i hit it properly - 75% i guess - it flies almost exactly 200yds .
I'd be prepared to look for a hybrid 4 as i have too much of a gap between the 3 hybrid and my 5I .

I didn't use my hybrid once today (typical lack of confidence after a lay-off) and used my 4/5 irons for long range/lay-ups. Got to say that the consistency was 100%, where's with my 20 heavenwood, I eventually top one every flippin' game.

I used it off the tee on a 185 par 3.....tasty to 12 foot....great off the tee these clubs!!!

I ditched the four iron last year and bought one of the MP FliHi 4 irons as a replacement. It worked out so well I ended up with the 2 iron version as well. Suits my game fine and have made a difference since they went in the bag.

Replaced my 4 iron last year for the TM Burner no 4 what a great utility club good off both the tee for the odd par 3 and just as easy off the deck good for the confidance as well.
