4 iron just short of the driver whats going on!!!!

LOL,

really losing the plot here hit the 4 iron around 200 yards now and the driver just 10 yards more.

only thing is i hit the 4 iron much better than the driver and lost all confidence in driver now truth be told.

is there anything that i might be doing causing this or is it all in my head lol...

I hit some left some right and a few down the middle. Good drive i get 230 max. Tho to be honest if i had a 3 iron i say i give that a good go..

was thinking i was hitting down on the driver but if that was the case i think i am right in saying 99% of the balls would be high and right which they are not lol.

edit: dont want to blame the tools but maybe its the driver LOL

The driver is different to the irons as the loft predominantly produces the height rather than the amount of spin.

If you hit down on a driver you reduce the loft therefore reduce the carry.

It could be also that with a 4 iron you are confident to have a big bash at it, maybe with the driver you are more careful so produce less clubhead speed.

So if you combine poor angle of attack, slow swing speed and poor ball position you get a sever reduction in distance!

A good tip when on a range is to address the driver on the tee and place your left foot over the holes for left handed ball positions. Then swing up on the ball a little with conviction, all these together should produce more distance.

Do not forget to keep your head behind the ball! Its common for people to push through the driver, this not only stops you hitting up on the ball but wastes energy and can produce big push shots and snap hooks!

my setup and grip are both 100% ball at address is to my left heel and never have my hands infront of the ball.

If anything the driver ball flight would be on the high side, but i do tend to hit a high ball with all my clubs.

might get a lead of one of the mates drivers just to see if its something in my head thats putting me over..

ITs something that has been at me from the start of season its not getting any worse but its not getter any better if you get me..

might get myself down the pro but he has been giving me the evil eye of late with me buying the new irons on shafts he did not want me to get lol

I have days like this. Truth is, I'm flushing the 4 iron and hitting the driver terribly, straight-ish but not out the middle.

dont currently have a 3 wood tho from what i remember about 200 as well..

@dave, this has been going on from start of season.. think i will see the pro to see what he says on the matter.
