Well hving been sat in front of the telly nearly all day,
all I can say 'is gutted'Seems that it was 4 holes too far for the fairytale to come true!!!
But what a show T.W. put on!
(hope for all the oldies yet,eh?)
jimbo

P.S.Thanks Tom .....you are a class act!! ;)

He did look knackered down 17 and 18 but to be honest I think he knew he was out of it and his heart wasn't in it. A truely great performance though and hopefully he'll pay well at Sunningdale next week

Did anyone else know he's 59 yrs old?

My God, we've had Tom Watson's age rammed down our throats all bloody weekend.
Still, he showed the young upstarts how to play a steady game of golf didn't he.

I think the 4 hole playoff was just a bit too much for him and the tiredness finally hit him.
I bet he's mortally gutted he missed that putt on the 18th to win outright.

I was gutted yet really pleased with Tom watsons performance, he truely deserved to win it I believe and I think for him to duff the last hole when he just had to Par to win really kicked him in the guts a bit I think, that and the fact that his putting just wasn't as good in the last round.

I dont wish to put a downer on Cinq's performance as it was good, but he got extremely lucky on a couple of holes of the 18 and again in the 4 holes, but they say you make your own luck, it just took the shine off the tournament the way it came to a finish, simply an exhausted Tom and a slightly lucky Cinq for me.

Im sorry to say that Cinq's performance simply was'nt memorable for me, Toms most certainly was. lets hope Cinq can make up for it now he's got a break to shine.

Unlucky for westwood who performed beautifully only to be dogged by the bad luck when he really didnt deserve to be, I was rooting for him should Tom fail and Both fell away. doh! :(

great finish to a good weekends golfs. im really gutted for tom watson, it would have been something special to see him lift the jug once more.

i also feel a bit sorry for cink, because this open will probably always be remembered for how close tom watson came to winning it and maybe should have.

To me, Watson bottled it with the putter all the last round. He never looked convincing at all.

As for Westwood, it wasn't just bad luck. 3 bogeys in the last 4 holes is not just bad luck, and what was he doing on the 18th green? I don't think he will ever win a major, he hasn't got that winning thing.

He was so unlucky with his second to 18 and it was obvious that the extra 4 would be to many for him shame it wasn't the US open he may have made it

He did prove that golfers of his generation were a class act and if anything changes my stance on Tiger, I have always thought Tiger is the best ever, not so sure now Jack was playing guys like Watson week after week.

Thats spot on, i am just a bit young (late 30's) to really appreciate Palmer, Nicklaus, watson, player, trevino at there best but when you look at Jacks record look not only to the tournaments he won but the ones he came 2nd and 3rd in, ie always in contention.

Even if woods breaks the major record Nicklaus is still the greatest golfer ever. Saying that Seve is still my favorite by a miles and Sandy Lyle on his day the best.

I think TW should at least have been allowed a short break before going out again. Cink had been in for a while and had some time to recover.

All credit to Watson though - I hope I will be able to play 4 days on the trot and still play that consistently at his age - actually I'd be pretty pleased to be able to do it now.
