My 3W has been on the naughty step for quite a while now. It has always seemed to be the only club I hit with a fade instead of my more usual draw. It had gotten to the point where I would actively avoid using it, even when it is the right club, and despite knowing that the problem is me, I had pretty much convinced myself that I was going to ditch it and buy a new one.

Then a very strange thing happened. I got to the 3rd tee yesterday and realised that I had left my driver in the car. I've never left a club in the car before and have no idea why I did yesterday but the nett result was that I was forced to use the 3W. The first couple of tee shots were a bit tentative but after that I could hardly miss a fairway.

So today I played again and thought I'd see whether yesterday was a fluke but no. I know stand on the tee with my 3W with the same confidence I do with my driver and hit it with a nice draw.

So a few hundred quid saved and a club I'm confident with. Just goes to show its all in the mind :D

That's the life of a 3W - I was so inconsistent with mine - high fades most of the time with the odd day where it worked ok

Was lent a HL one and hit it sweet so sold the 3W and bought a HL version and been great ever since

I thought you were working on a Blackmoor fade ?;)

I used to never be able to hit a wood. Got a tip on it that i was way too steep.

Taking away low and trying to brush the ground as I start my swing helped, also slowing the transition, I would tighen up and pull in rather than retain angles at transition time..

Both of these together were making for a very steep approach, TBH this has helped all my clubs from a driver to my wedge as I was to steep with everything.

Is it OK off the deck?

10 out of 13 fairways today, 2 of the 3 I missed were with my 3H. There's something quite satisfying about aiming over the trees on 10 and drawing it back into the fairway. Th hole I am concerned about is 3 when we go back to the proper tee, that has bunker written all over it :D

My 3 wood is inconsistent but until the course dries out and hazards like the ditches on our 9th and 18th come into range, I only use it a few times on the course as the driver is the best choice for most tee shots. It is more necessary on a more strategic course (Blackmoor definitely fit that) and I try and pratice with it if I'm going to be needing it more.
