...........It really is turgid stuff to watch.

The courses are just for me,much of the muchness and it is just a case of *** it,find it in the very light rough at worst, chuck the dart onto the green and hole putts.

Just crap to watch.

Compare that to the European events, even South Africa with low scoring of the 1st event this year at least the courses were interesting and this weeks is set up as a course should be with a premium on hitting the fairway....great to watch.

European Tour all day for me I am afraid.

I agree.

I used to have Sky Sports and, in all honestly, the US tour could be played on the same course for 99% of the time as all their courses look the same.

I can see why the European players defect to that tour though. It's a bit like being a snooker pro - the table is the same week in, week out. If the courses are set up the same, you've taken one variable out of the equation.

I'm with you on that one Dodger.

Just stated that the Euro Tour seems much better than the PGA stuff.
Euro tour has many nationalities and big names playing in Abu Dhabi. What bigger coup than having the world No1 and Tiger playing?

PGA tour, OK, there's Mickelson and a shedload of Yanks playing. Watching it now but just not holding my attention like the Euro earlier.

Should be a cracking weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Was interesting to hear the Tiger post round interview, he mentioned the narrow fairways several times and with the added hazard of the wind made the course tough... It actually looked liked he was enjoying a different setup.

Its difficult to keep interested with them going to Ad' breaks every 5 minutes while we get diverted back to the Sky studio to analyse someone else's swing, or Bubbas pink driver.
Faldo sends me to sleep as well!

Not really helped this week by the chasm in playability between the North and South course. Will be interesting to see how they all fare over the weekend on the tricky South course but it definitely won't be the usual birdie fest.

On a side note what the blazes is Parkin doing in the commentary booth. He's useless

I prefer watching the US stuff just because there's more crowds and more characters, the European stuff often looks like 4 guys and 12 spectators and someone who was walking their dog who just happened to be there... obviously the main group in Abu Dabi this week is going to have a decent crowd tracking their round, which made a pleasant change.

I agree. The fact that the European tour goes to so many countries with different climates means that the courses are more varied. I also like that you have 50 odd nationalities and not 90% American with a token Saffa, Aussie and Canadian allowed in.

Also not a fan of the USA putting competition mixed with copious amounts of adverts.

Euro golf is so much better to watch.

On the whole, I agree the european tour is more interesting, but it's the accenture in a couple of weeks and thats a tremendous tourney imo, and some of the european ones can be a bit dull with limited coverage.

Couldn't agree more.

Interesting to hear comments from some in AD about how they had made the fairways narrower than last year when in actual fact all they have done is over seeded the rough and made it more penal, just the way it should be.

I have played both Torrey courses. Torrey is a municipal course owned by the city of San Diego. If you are a local resident, you can play it pretty cheaply.

But for outsiders, it is quite hard to get on, and involves either paying way over the odds or waiting around for a slot.

My overall review is that both courses are rather ordinary courses set in a magnificent location. The views to the ocean and down to La Jolla and San Diego are fantastic, with the cypress trees, nice weather and hang-gliders flying around the edge of the course. The courses have some good holes, but a lot of long sloggers down narrow fairways between heavy rough, and are often in poor condition, because many of the golfers who play there have no idea about where to avoid driving the obligatory cart, or repairing pitch marks or divot holes. Overall, rather disappointing and not worth the money or time.

The pace of play is hideous, only slightly faster than evolution. The last time I played, we were standing on the 4th tee 1 hour after we teed off, and finished after 6 hours in pitch darkness. I teed off with a new Taylor Made driver, but by the time I got back to the car, it was 2 generations out of date.

I agree. I've never understood why (i'm assuming its the $$$$$$) they go to the courses they do when they have so many better courses to visit.
