Yup it's time for the Templeton Cup here.

Matchplay comp between North Canterbury clubs.

Teams consist of 8 members and that team handicap index’s has to come up to a minimum of 110. You then play in handicap order with no shots given.Generally lowest will start at around 6 as there is another comp for the lower single figure golfers

Right so up at 4.30 am to get to our club to meet fellow team members to travel to Hanmer Springs for a 8 O'Clock start.

Played against chap off 3 ( the one team that hasn't got enough low SFH to play in other comp) and he does me 4 and 3 but pretty content as played to my handicap and first time at Hanmer.

Quick lunch then off again at 12.45 and played against chap off same handicap and beat him 4 and 3 and this time was one under so very happy . Alas team lost 6-2 and 6-2 so some work to do in the next 4 rounds to make the final stages.

What was fascinating was how I played in the AM chasing the game and in the PM defending a lead once I'd gone 2 up after 3 :) Two different approaches to how to play a hole with the more conservative one producing a better score !!

Hamner is gorgeous part of the world. I didn't get to play golf whilst I was there (sadly). But it looks lovely.

36 in a day must be hard work there!

Pfft 36 holes. Last year I had to play 45 and it should have been 54 only I got a bye in the first round of our Barton cup, first tee shot at 0850ish last putt sunk at 1900ish then back to the club house for tee and medals!
