Got my first 36 hole comp coming up this weekend.

Teeing off at 9:30 and 2:30 so not much time in between for a break (4 1/2 hours is the norm at my place).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you have time a shower and change of clothes well worthwhile at lunch, if not make sure at least a fresh pair of socks and if you own 2 pairs a fresh pair of shoes a help too. Other than that make sure you are hydrated and eat well and you'll be fine, enjoy :)

You don't want much time for a break as your legs just get tired. Change of shoes and socks never go a miss and a fresh shirt makes you feel better. Good luck.

Don't toss about warming up too much as it's a long day anyway.

Limit yourself to 3 or 4 pints during lunch. ;) It doesn't do much for the golf, but you really aren't bothered by that stage!!!!

I didn't follow any of the advice above.

I warmed up, had a heavy lunch, forgot to pack more than a bottle of water, wore the same clothes and socks all day and didnt have a shower.

I shot 34, 36 points and came 5th out of 22, most players had dodgy society handicaps (some men were given over 30 shots a round).

The most important thing I found was to just stick to your normal routines and don't play outside your comfort zone and game plan. Nothing wears you out more than mental fatigue when playing golf, searching for your ball on every hole, digging out of deep rough, fishing around in a pond etc.

Keep it on the fairway, lay up rather than bash a long club and don't go for short par 5s in 2, short par 4s in 1 and long par 3s in 1. That kept me fresh even in 22C and light winds.
