just booked up (via travelzoo) for me and 3 mates to play 2 rounds at the belfry for my 30th birthday weekend :)

they're doing a deal for a round plus breakfast/dinner(or spa session) for £68 per person - cracking!
so got 12 of us going (4 golfers plus friends/partners) for 2nights at the end of January.
can't wait!!
be my first time on a top course!

Nice one, hope you have a great time.
I have never played a top top course but can't wait till I do, but it would be a huge let down to play somewhere like St Andrews and play rubbish, I don't think that I would be able to enjoy it.

Hey up !
I was going to ask if you were playing the Brabazon but to be honest all three courses at the Belfry are tops !!!
I played the PGA and Brabazon when I visited and it was a superb weekend.
I was actually playing quite well on the Brabazon course until the famous 10th. I should have played it safe but how many chances do you get to drive the world famous Brabazon 10th.
Needless to say my round went downhill fast from there and No I gave it a good go but failed to drive the green !! :(

The whole complex is amazing and im sure you will love it. Just pray you dont have a large crowd outside the club house when you drive off the first!

I've been for New Year a couple of years ago and my dad played the Brabazon at 8am New Years' Day.

He fell over teeing up his ball on the first... but amazingly shot a very decent round (and loved it). I rolled out of bed in time to meet him in the bar for a beer afterwards!

I'm jealous whatever- the PGA looked to be a great course from what I saw of it. The Brabazon just carries more Kudos and would be more enjoyable as it is more iconic and you can pick out holes you recognise from tv etc. I'm sure you will have a great time whatever.

I've played the PGA and the Derby. PGA is a good course although they've changed it quite a bit since I was there. Made it a lot more linksy and open apparently. The Derby is ok - its not to the quality of the other 2 but its a perfectly decent track and it should be in a similar condition to the others.

You'll have a great time!!

My group hit safe irons down the middle then all declared we weren't sure we would find them (on the fairway :p) and hit provisionals with our drivers...

I also played the Brabazon years ago when the lake on 18 was frozen. I bounced a 9 iron off it onto the green and holed the putt - unfortunately it was for a 5 though...

I played the Derby and Brabazon about 6/7 years ago. The Brabazon was fantastic and difficult and won the Longest Drive with a tankard to prove. But the greens were very very quick. The derby was not as good but still decent.

Managed to drive the infamous 10th on the Brabazon and not far from the pin either which still remains my favourite/best shot ever.

Which ever you play, I'm sure that you'll enjoy.

Spoke to a Belfry rep at the NEC and he said the PGA is the one to play over the winter.

Would be good if you could play both tho over the two days. Good luck and enjoy it.

Vig, when are we going?

I'd be up for it tomorrow but we're both working . Definately in the new year.
I'll have to make up a list of "like to plays in 09" courses. Cue for another thread i think.

Yes. We should do one a month (providing your not picking £50+ green fees every month) :D
