Had the pleasure of playing with a guy yesterday who attacked a par 4 at 311 yards off the tee and the ball finished just a smidge left and 10 or so yards too long (first 1/4 of the hole is down a slope then flat for the remainder, no breeze)

Hats off to you guys that can do this, it really was something else to see in the flesh. I will never play that game!

p.s on the downside the course were attempting to sell cheese baguettes for £18.40ea

What did he score?

a slip of a young fella knocked the ball about 20 yards past me yesterday on our par 5. he then proceeded to knock an iron to about 12 feet.

wee s***e!

Our 12th is 295 off the whites & 310 or something off the blues , i normally wait to play off the tee ..

worst feeling in the world when you wait and wait then scrub one ha ha ..

300 yards is great .. 260 straight is better

Few lads at our place seem to hit it 300 yards down a 10 yard corridor every time. Great to watch them play, plus it's really easy to score their card!

Unlike them having to use a calculator to get my cricket score.....

I'd hate to think how much a prawn sandwich would be!

It can be a different game if the rest of his game is on.
Going into a par 4 or 5 with an 8 iron as apposed to a 6 can be a different game.
However I have played with a few big hitters, generally but not all the time they are wayward.
Also they tend to hit every club as hard as possible which can lose control.
I would say that consistency is the key,if you can hit it Bubba long and score well with a good
short game you would be close to scratch.

Played with a young Pro a couple of years ago and this was his game. there was no finesse. He would launch himself at the driver the same as the lob wedge. When it came off it was a sight to behold and I was laughing out of disbelief when he nailed it. He hit rescue-rescue into our 500+ yard par 5 and landed 40ft left pin high. His first putt didn't even get to within 10 feet. I would still swap his game for mine in a heartbeat.

There was a 16 h/cap behind us yesterday, built like an out house, who was hitting 330 yard drives. Amazing to watch, but clearly useless in terms of reducing his handicap.

I'm in the 300 yard bracket and yes it's awesome when my game is on not so awesome when I'm not playing well I can visit parts of the course I've never seen but would I swap my game not a chance I love the way I play an if I took that out I probably would not enjoy my golf and that's the most important factor

I'm the same as you buddy, I've come to accept that I might hit a few big but bad tee shots in a round, but that's my game and I too wouldn't change it!!
Instead I've been working hard on my chipping and putting which has bought my game on so much, I WILL get into single figures this season!!
I will admit to taking great pleasure watching players off 5 or less looking bemused when a crappy 14 hacker nails a 320+ drive!!

I'm actually the opposite now....

I can hit it a decent distance (not got the cojones for the GM Long Drive crew but not short :)) and I've spent the last few years hammering driver wherever I could and just take it from there.

The penny has finally dropped with me that I really don't need to hit driver on 14 holes every round and it actually makes scoring easier.....

Each to their own though, if you're happy firing away then carry on, theres a chance I'll end up back doing that when I realise the rest of my game isn't good enough to reduce my handicap anyway!!!!

Rarer than hens teeth.
Not all single figure players are long hitters, however they are a dam sight more aware
of their abilitys.

Really , ? i think the bemused part , if anything, would be as to how this guy is still off 14 if he can drive like that ..

rather than how can a 14 handicapper hit it that far

I think guys off 5 or less , even myself off 7 only care where our drives end up , no how far they end up , i wouldn't mind if you out drove me all day so long as my drive left me in rest place for me to par or better the hole ..

Distance has its advantages , its great to be hitting wedges - 8 irons in instead of rescue woods .. but its not everything
