New to game and next club on the list is a three wood. Just wondering which 3 wood you would recommened for a beginner. Going out this weekend to try a few. Thanks

I'd recommend something from MD Golf or Benross. Good quality kit at a reasonable price. Whatever you choose make sure you try before you buy ideally outside on a range or practice ground so you can see the flight of the ball. Hitting in a shop wi th a computer is no substiture for seeing how it flies, the shape in the air and how far it rolls on landing

The ram Qub3 3-wood that i tested for GM is a decent low budget club.... might be worth a go. Some people struggle with the square head though.

Once again Homer gets in first with the right answer!!

However, don't overlook a decent 2nd hand Big Bertha or Taylor-Made equivalent. Titleist clubs are normally a bit more for better players but don't discount Mizuno or Ping either. Wilson do some decent kit.

In all honesty, these days there is much real rubbish anymore. Most of it works to a large extent and as long as you try before you buy you'll find something that works for you

try the TM v steel, loads to find on ebay not the latest bling but are excellent, I have the three and five wood paid £60 for the pair, both are superb but see if you can find out if stiff or reg is best for you.

Imurg,

"However, don't overlook a decent 2nd hand Big Bertha"

Just after I read this, the doorbell rang and the postman delivered a 'decent 2nd hand Big Bertha 3 wood'. It is a ladies club and should replace both my senior Wilson Staff 3 and 5 woods.
However, I am at home injured this week so do not yet know if the new club will suit me.

take a look at the wilson staff fybrid 3 wood. can be had for less than £80 now. Really excellent clubs.

I have the 19.5º and 21º and they are the most consistent clubs in my bag. Tried the 3w out last weekend and will buy one as soon as funds allow. as above though, try before you buy as the clubs mentioned might not suit you.

Thanks for all the advice alot of clubs to take in. Do you guys think if you use a particular make of driver and it works for you the woods will also or am i way off.

It doesn't necessarily follow. I've tried the G10 3-wood and love it, the G10 driver I couldn't hit straight if my life depended on it.

no short cuts (and why spoil the fun?), you just have to try everything

True about spoiling the fun viscount17 and thanks for the advice everyone. Looking forward to trying different clubs. Just looking to have a better judgement when selecting different clubs to use. Bought some clubs up to now and after reading some stuff on here and talking to some guys maybe rushed in a little. Thanks again.

I must be a prophet or something...shame I don't know the lotto numbers this week

Hey I'm reletivley new to the game and I have a titleist 3 wood, I couldnt use it at first but now I can and its amazing!

Yeah, but if you had to change your swing to use it, surely you could have bought one that worked straight away?

I have nothing against Titleist, most of my bag is Titleist, it just isn't normally a good choice for beginners.

For instance, my 906F2s are currently only available on special order as they are stupidly difficult to hit, and weren't a sales success. That's why they brought out the F4s, and now the 909s. However, I love them.

Yeah I could't use it at first but I didn't have to change my swing. I just found it difficult to hit from the fairway. Once I decided to only use it from the tee it became slot easier to get on with. I put it down the it just being a 3 wood and the shaft being so long, not being a titleist.
