Played over the weekend.
Front 9 went well for me. OK, I'm a high handicapper, but I was putting together a solid round, mainly 5's on the par 4's, a couple of pars but no birdies.
Got to the turn.........as usual, the wheels started coming off!
A 6 on the 10th, 7 on the 11th and 12th, and a lousy 9 on the 13th. All par 4's.

My concentration and confidence immediately evaporated. Pushing straight right all the way down the 14th. Come to the 15th and it felt as though I had forgotten how to hit a golf ball as I hacked my way up toward the green for a 9 again.
16th and 17th went better with a 6 and 5. The 18th par 3 saw my shot fall short but a nice pitch on to within 3 feet saw a finish with a par.

Frustrating is not the word. I wasn't tired, but it just seemed my game disintregated on the way back.

Still thoroughly enjoyed my round though. Pleasant company and marvellous weather. If only I could keep goin with the good shooting.

Will it get better given more practise and experience? :D

It does get better. Just remember the wheels and exhaust fell off for Harrington in consecutive weeks recently so it happens to everyone.

The secret if you have a bad hole is not to let it affect the next (easier said than done) and not to go trying to chase a birdie or par to "make up" for the lost shots. Play each hole as it comes and it will be what it will be. If you hit a bad shot let it go. It sounds to me like you are getting a little panicky once you hit a bad one and then start telling yourself the next one will be as bad. Negativity will feed negativity.

Once you steadied the ship at 16, 17 played much easier and you had the belief at 18 to chip and putt. I think its more mental than physical and you might just need to change your thinking

The more often you find yourself in a particular situation, the better equipped you are to deal with it imo, so I'd say yes.

Did you know how well you were doing after 9 and started thinking about what your 18 hole score might be i.e. doubling your score after 9?

I had a similar experience at the weekend only in reverse, started the first 6 poorly then played well after that (apart for the par 3's) as I had 5's & 6's the whole way home which for me is good.

As Homer said it's forgetting about the crap shots & not making 2 mistakes out of 1 mistake by doing something stupid in a bid to make up the lost shots which I think is important, but as we all know this is easy to say, difficult to execute.
