So, the only ones that don't hate a 3 putt are those habitual 4-putters...they're a waste of a shot. Nobody likes them.

But we all 3 putt from time to time..
But what level, number, percentage do you feel is realistically acceptable.?
Obviously the lower the handicap the less the percentage will be and you can't say that none are acceptable as you're going to do it sooner or later.
I'm on about 5% this year, so one 3 putt every 20 holes.
I'd be happier to get that to one in 30/35 holes...
What about you..?

Don't 3 putt too often to be honest..... But that doesn't tell the full story, I don't hit enough GIR therefore I don't tend to have many long putts..... Which I also am not very good at... Am sure if I hit more greens I may 3 putt. More, one every 25 - 30 holes would be acceptable for my level!?

Although I did have one today

If I'm on my own patch, I really don't expect one for every 3 rounds at least. I know all the breaks, the speed isn't scary and the greens are pretty small.

Going away on big undulating or much faster greens I'd accept one a round.

this is pretty much spot on for me, that said the state our greens are in currently if they happen they happen

I probably have 1 a round, which is far too many.

Two rounds last weekend, only one over par and not one 3 putt. I was knocking some flags out, but I missed a few good birdie putts.

The flip side, my last medal at Dunbar, I had four of them three putts, but I got a few single putts to get it round in 78......and that was with 3 out of a steep bunker.

One three putt a round is not bad if your course has large and fast greens. If you can balance that with a few single drops then all is fair IMO.

We don't have large fast greens :D

Often I 3-stab from positions you wouldn't expect to 3-putt from.

A little over 1 a round is what it feels like to me, though I don't keep stats.

Had 2 silly ones last round, but still only 30 putts!

I'm never distraught if I 3-stab from miles away, but those ones weren't in '3-putt country'!

I'd say 5/6 times max.

A recurring theme here for the mid to high handicaps to take note of.

99% of the responses with handicaps on their sigs are ranging from 2-10. All rarely 3 putt. It dawned on me massively at the forum meet on Sunday that the amount of 3 putts cost me dear with regards points/score whilst my FC's putting was extremely consistent.

With an unofficial handicap of 17, hitting FIR regularly and GIR at a decent rate, putting is the area I may well focus on a hell of a lot more going forward.

Blimey, once again the GM Forum is better at golf than the pros !

Expect 1 per round; 2 per round is common; 3 per round is not uncommon. 4 or 5 and you are having a bad round on the greens or they are much faster / slopier than you normally play

Of course, these figure are when you putt out - if you are playing gimmes, your figures aren't representative.

Not so remarkable with a bit of context.

Longest putt I had last weekend was 25' - 3 of those. The other 26 were from 15' and in.

We have very small greens and, after playing there so often, could predict the break on 99% of the putts without a read.

I am not a great putter, although I am better than I was, if I have long putt I will often take 3, happily I normally don't miss too many short ones these days, especially after a tip from GaryinDerry.

I would normally expect at least one 3 putt a round sadly its often more.

Several per round. Usually miss one through casualness and the others through a poor first attempt being too long or too short. Getting better and Aimpoint gives me a better read and more confidence about the line. I've stopped recording stats on SS2 for 2013 as I thought I was getting too bogged down in the numbers. Will rethink for 2014 depending on how I do with winter work

My putting average (according to sky caddie) is 1.8...... Maybe I should learn to hit the ball then as still high handicapper!!!

Although in seriousness the greens at our place aren't massive so tend not to have many 30 footers !! Do notice the occasional 3 putt when I play an away course!!!

I would say at my home track I average 2 a round, some of our greens are 70 yds long though so you can have a pretty long first putt. If I play somewhere I havent before then that average can easily go up to 3-4 a round especially if greens are silly quick.
